Interestingly, just looked at my last service notes from MR Auto here in Brisbane (who seem pretty clued up) - they recommend every 24k for the fuel filter. More frequent than many are using here - food for thought. It ain't an expensive part.
The service interval for the 2.7 is 48,000km or 2 years. I assume the 3.0 would be something similar.
I would be guided by that service interval - dirty conditions earlier.

Did mine every 20K Km,or every second service.
While its fine to pick up fuel locally from a place that is known to have good fuel, while travelling its difficult, although we always tried to fill at the larger name brand places, even if it was slightly more expensive.
LR also always seem to use the spin on type fuel filter,so without cutting it up,its difficult to tell how dirty its actually getting.
With a cartridge type its much easier to inspect, although some are a bit more messy to change.
Spoke to the workshop I use , they stated they do them every 50,000km and mine wasn't due so they didn't worry about it, bit strange given I asked for a pre trip inspection due to a 3 month trip coming up and they felt the need to replace a pollen filter again, that seems to happen every service, last one being only 9000km ago although it was nearly 2 years due to the car not being driven for nearly 12 months.
Seems the workshop has mechanics that just go into automatic pilot mode and replace bits that don't need it and just skim over the rest[bawl]
Time to have a good chat with the workshop owner again I think,he wasn't in when I rang them [bigwhistle]
imho...
I recommend every 10K with the engine oil, oil filter, air filter.
as for changing it too often, what a crock of ****.
But hey, each to their own, it's your HPFP and fuel system.
Try to change every 10,000 to 12,000km. My local diesel mechanic recommends every oil change. We were in Brisbane 6 weeks ago, it was 10,000km, bought a new diesel filter along with the rest of the filter's from MR athe uto as it would be a bit over 12,000 when we go home.
Filled with diesel in Redcliffe, from one of teh major fuel outlets, towing a caravan, about 40Km south of Tenterfield, the vehiclevwent into limp home mode. Pulled over turned off an on, anoher 5km same fault . There was a rest area nearby, and checked the fault codes, lower fuel pressure. After serveral more faults we made it to Glenn Innes, where we intending to stay. Did some googling and then mostly likely cause was bad buel, blocked diesl filter. Weather had turned wet so could not change the filter myself, but the local NRMA man foud someone who would change the filter late the next.
With a new filter installed the we did 1,400km over the next 2 days to get home wiht no further issues. Replacement Diesel ordered.
I will not travel without a spare filter and change every oil change. You never know when you will get bad fuel and a blocked filter. It is a low cost item and if you get a fault will driver you to dispair, wife wanted to replace the D3.
So change the filter regularly and carry a spare when travelling. It can be changed on the side of the side of teh road, but is a PIA to do.
