D4 specific questions

It's called marketing and $$$ , sell 1 as more kw for more $$. If you read the specs as supplied to me by a fellow forum member the 2011 tdv6 is the same kw as the sdv6 and 2012 tdv6 is only 155kw instead of the previous 180kw.

Not exactly. There was no SDV6 when it was released. It was badged as a 3.0 TDV6, but was 184kw. This is what I own.

When they dropped the 2.7 that when they went to the TDV6/SDV6 to differentiate the two in tuning.

I understood the TDV6 was available in 155kW low tune and 180kw high tune. The SDV6 i have started with 188kW.

I thought the same. 180/184/188kw all being a state of tune only though. Mine is perfectly happy at a little over 200kW now.

You’re confusing things here. Read my post above. This only applied in the early model years. Once there was only a 3L engine in the family, TD/SD related to the tune low/high power. In the early years 2010/11 there was no SD variant, only 2.7L and 3L engines

Ok maybe it was only 2010 year thing.

The SDV6 3.0L arrived in 2010,D4.

The TDV6 D4 was the 2.7L which ran 2010,until MY12,then was replaced with the TDV6 which was low tune 3.0L,and same time 8sp auto also arrived in both 3.0 L engine variants.

My car is a 2010 TDV6 3.0L HSE with the 180kw tune.

The key difference is mine is the MY10 build. You’re right, in MY11 build they introduced the term SDV6 which was also happened to be in 2010.

Brought in to reduce confusion, which has obviously worked well :-)
