I've messed about before integrating Bluetooth into a D3 Radio case, and I was for years happy enough with my phone in the screen space using android auto.
Unfortunately, google have stopped allowing Android Auto to show on phones.
This means that I need to get serious about a long term back burner project, using an android tablet to show Android Auto on a bigger screen.
So far, this is proof of concept, but works pretty well, I used it to tow my van Sydney to Adelaide, and it didn't get on my nerves, even though it wasn't secured too well.
So what do you need.
An android tablet with a decent spec, and android phone with android auto onboard.
I used an iplay 20, because I had one and it wasn't getting too much use.
A bluetooth receiver into the aux port. (I rolled my own to get it as quiet as possible, a mate has one of these, they are really good, especially if not charging)
  • Pair phone and android tablet with bluetooth.
  • Pair phone to Land rover phone as usual.
  • Pair phone to bluetooth receiver for media only.
  • Load Headunit reloaded onto the android tablet.
  • Connect phone using wifi android auto

Video attached is how it goes. I'm pleased with it, need to work on a 3d printed mount either off the screen, or off the piano black trim underneath.
Google assistant and sound work, the phone turned off both when I started recording.
Going to get a more discreet power lead and attach it permanently ish.
