Well I purchased a tube of the stuff in your link Brad, you even get a choice of red or black, 3 coats and it's enough not to have exposed wires so I will call it as it works.
Removed the battery and cleaned behind it , no noticable damage anywhere else so whether they got disturbed during their early nest build I'm not sure.
Left the battery out for 2 days with some baits placed around the engine bay and general vicinity of the car and they look un touched.
Thanks for the link Brad.

Go to a supermarket or health food store and buy some Peppermint Oil extract. Make up a strong solution with water in a small pump up pressure sprayer (1-2 litre size from Bunnings). Spray liberally under the bonnet everywhere. Rats and mice do not like peppermint. I had rats getting around the engine of the D4, Avalon and old Troopie. Sprayed them all. No rats since. Repeat every few months.
Veebs, I think that should have read "terdis" !!

Leave your bonnet up or, if that’s not viable, then put a light under the bonnet and leave it on at night. The rats like the warm from the engine and don’t like the light. They also like the flavour of the insulation on wires. Can’t remember what it’s made from. The light keeps them away. White Tailed Rats apparently.
