    Rear passenger door and window fault

    Hi all,

    I recently had an issue crop up with my rear passenger side door lock and window within 2 weeks of the 7 year service on my 2015 Discovery (completed by the dealer 6 weeks ago). The door started intermittently not unlocking and I couldn't open it, but in the past 3 weeks it now just won't unlock at all. It can't be opened from either outside or inside. The latch on the inside of the door on the handle also can not be forced to open. The window on this side also now does not work. So, I'm assuming it is something electrical? I queried the dealer and they advised that they wouldn't have touched the door during the service and that door lock failures on this model are fairly common and that a new door latch assy is likely required. The window issue will need to be diagnosed.

    Has anyone had a similar issue?

    The actuator for the door lock will have failed inside, most likely stripping the plastic gears, meaning the actuator motor turns but the mechanism doesn't work. Replacement actuator from the regular UK suppliers is e
    Recommended.

    Not sure why the power window doesn't work, this runs off a separate wire. You may have blown a fuse as well if the door lock actuator has tried again and again to open, but I would gave thought they are on separate circuits. I just replaced the same door lock actuator in mine, could still operate the window with the lock mechanism removed.

    Not sure why the power window doesn't work, this runs off a separate wire.     Advanced Factors out of the UK. Freight can be exxy, but they use DHL, if you order say Monday, you'll have it Thursday that week.

    Also try your local JLR dealer, sometimes they do have competitive pricing, (emphasis on the sometimes)...

    You can do a temporary repair to some of the actuators, there is a post about it somewhere on the Disco3 site. Basically the small electric motor gunks up and needs a good internal clean.

    I temporarily fixed mine 6 years ago while I waited for the cheap replacement to come from Aliexpress. I don't know if the cheap one even works?

    There's a few on here also. My first temporary repair lasted about 5 years. Then I just replaced the motor.
    I have a new rear passenger actuator waiting to go in, but as nobody uses that door anymore I haven't quite found my round-tuit.

    My first one failed 2 days after I got the car but it was the passenger front door and it locked my mother in law out, so it didn't upset me as much as it might have.

    I've done a few now in various cars and it has always been the motor (brushes specifically). I've not seen stripped gears yet, but there's always a first.

    As a last ditch to open the door, having someone inside wiggling the lock mechanism while having someone outside pounding on the door skin while repeatedly trying to unlock with the remote or button can sometimes get you over the line. It's about trying to get that last electrical contact made between the brush and commutator.

    If you can't unlock it from the inside then it's likely to be the superlock motor. I haven't had one fail yet on the LR, but I know it's coming.
