When I tried it mine faulted to limp mode every time it faulted. There was no logic to when it faulted , . 01/08 build date

I think you will find the programming change preventing the simple blanking of the EGRs came in around August 2007 in line with when the MY08 was officially released.

Then how do you explain my May built MY08 Euro4 with 8A VIN ? Besides, if your egrs are faulty blanked or not it will fault, if they are working and blanked they wont.

Nobody can explain any of it with your vehicle, but pretty much everyone with an 8A vin besides you gets errors when they blank the EGRs without a patch. The traditional model year runs August to July, so your's being a May build is very much an outlier. That may explain why you appear to be running different software to the rest of us.

The MY08 was the first to have a DPF option, and with the DPF the EGRs are required to function as part of the burnoff process. It make sense they put extra checks on the EGRs from that point on.

According to the build configurations, MY08 was released in August 2007.

When you say May built, do you mean May of 2007 year? If so, I explain it simply that you have a MY07 spec vehicle as the MY08 was not released until August 2007. This conclusion is logical with the fact that you have not had any issues with EGR blanked off per MY07 and earlier models and contrary to the experience of all other MY08 onwards vehicles. Your VIN may just be misleading here and could be an anomaly - given that May 2007 is so early in the 2007 year it would be strange for the next years build spec model to already be in production.

Thanks for the replies Loanrangie and DiscoDB. Safe to say I will probably need the remap, so will plan for that when the time comes 👍.

Sounds like you have a pre-release very early build of the MY08 and so probably does not have all the software updates that came with the MY08 from August 2007 on.

The programming change also cross checks other readings, such as the air flow rates with the MAF etc, and is specifically looking to see that the EGR valves are working as expected. In other words it is checking to see if the EGR has been blanked.

No one knows exactly when the software change was made, but from all reports the change happened around mid-2008 in line with when the MY08 was officially released.

So you are lucky to have a very early MY08 which can be blanked with no programming change needed. BAS egr blank via gap tool

I just did BAS egr patch (2010 L320) very fast turn around and worth it, just to not hear the squeaking every time i turn the car off as it exercises the egr valves. no need to blank if valves where working and no errors before patch. even if you could just blank and not get errors from blanking, sooner or later the valves will stick/fail and you will get errors.

Less likely to fail if they aren't getting gummed up with soot.
