Can you swap a 2.7 in for a blown 3.0?

Tennis club friend has an expensive lawn ornament previously known as a 3.0 D4. As the title suggests, I'm curious as to whether a 2.7 out of a D3/D4/ Territory will fit in its place. I've seen a thread somewhere here maybe, just cant find it right now.
    Thanks Dave

Why would you want to put in a 2.7? A TDV8 would be a better option

Because a 2.7 has been shown to be a feasible "downgrade" whilst retaining all the 3.0 ancillaries. A TDV8 requires some physical adaptation and considerable work on the ECUs and associated interfaces.

A TDV8 would be great, but if you can just swap all your 3.0 bits onto a 2.7 long block it's a faster and less expensive option. There's a guy on the UK D3 forum who has done it. From memory he's a Kiwi.

Presumably required an ECU remap for the lowered capacity and torque curve of that engine?

I'd been led to believe that both options required ECU update/rejigs? But my vote is definitely with the 4.4 TDV8 or even the 5.0 V8 pettie if my current 3.0 throws a leg out again.
Just arrived: 2012 D4 3.0 HSE, the journey begins again ;-).

Yes it works, I've done 2 of them for friends/relatives, i dont offer it as an option to customers.

*You are stripping the engine down to just the bottom end block complete and the heads, everything gets removed (including the manifolds).
*The oil separators are different, the 2.7 has the oil drain back at the back of the block by the tone ring. The 3.0 has the drain in the top of the block at the back.
*The oil separators on both have a one way valve type arrangement, my guess is under full throttle the valve prevents the intake from sucking oil from the block.
*The oil separator from the 3.0 needs to be modified with a fitting to take a oil hose to plumb it to the block drain at the back of the engine, somewhere between the two you need to fit a one way valve, a pcv valve reversed, its all a tight squeeze.
*The heads on a 2.7 have one bolt hole on each side that is missing to mount the 3.0 egr assembly, one can be drilled/taped the other is missing the material on the block.
*Its lot and lots of work, more work than swapping a 3.0 for a 3.0.
*all the bits that bolt onto the 3.0 is needed.
*Keep the 2.7 water pump as the depth varies between the 2.
*keep the rear tone ring for the crankshaft position sensor on the 2.7

*I dont offer it to customers as the comment is typically oh downgrade it?
*which is a ridiculous statement, the difference in capacity from memory is 1mm in the bore and 1mm in the stroke, the 2.7 is a higher compression engine.
*While I havent dyno'd the 2, the power output would be at least equal if not better.

*So if the pcv / oil separator mod was more elegant and I didnt get dumb comment about downgrading, I'd prolly offer it to customers.
*I'm more interested in seeing if the block and heads from the ranger 3.0 are more similar.

Please dont private msg me asking about this, post here so everyone can read, assist etc etc.
    Regards
    Daz

wrong, no ecu mod needed, the ecu is not AI and only goes by what the sensors tell it.
all that extra power and torque comes from 2 turbos bolted to it

Its one of those do it if you're desperate or dont have the coin for a new/rebuilt 3.0, or you are a gluten for punishment and have the space and time to do it - i'd probably fall in the latter category

again I would be more interested in if someone has used this business in nsw
Automotive Skills offer a rebuilt bare engine for $11K on a exchange basis.

Anyone know of this business or have used them?
