Brisbane AC recommendation?

$3200 quote from Mr Cool to replace compressor and also the evaporator. 10 hours labour they recon. Evaporator doesn't necessarily need to be done, but his suggestion was to do it while the bumper is off as doing it if it fails later would require another small fortune in labour again...

Condenser is in grill, Evap is in cabin, I was recommended to do the condenser/drier as it's right after pump and will have most if not all of the metal that might have come out of the pump

Yep. I meant condenser. I decided to just get it regassed for now, the bloke seems to think that will get it cooling better, but it'll still take 10 to 15 minutes to get there. Should be able to live with that while I look at options to replace the compressor.

So I engaged Redcliffe Car Electrics to fix my A/C. They do a lot of auto elec for MR Autos.
Turns out the compressor clutch mount had sheared, not unheard of, but not the most common problem.
By luck, I had a spare compressor that I bought a few years ago, from a wreck, that I was able to give them.
The spare I provided had a knackered control valve so it was swapped from my original.

End product is that I got out of it fairly cheaply - just labour and consumables.
Point to note was that the proprietor told me that compressors are getting harder to source, control valves even more so, and rear A/C components (HSE 7 seats like mine) nearly impossible.
I had previously removed my rear evaporator as I wasn't able to source one.
He advised that if you get the opportunity to salvage from a wreck, do so.

Guessing you are talking about the 3.0L sanden compressor with clutch. 2.7L has a sacrificial front hub/clutch. This hub is what broke on mine, but its meant to as there is no clutch on 2.7L/TDV8, as my pump would intermittently lockup, and this saves the belt from snapping.

Ended up just getting the AC regassed, seems to have sorted it out for now and I don't think it's taking too long to kick in.
