Discovery 4 Electronic Parking Brake failure

    Hi,
My 2015 D4 electronic parking brake has failed (terrible screeching noise, jammed on, pulled the manual release under the cup holders).
Am advised it needs a new EPB module kit (LR072318) but these cost upwards of $1700 for a genuine part before fitting.
Does anyone have experience of the aftermarket versions on ebay that go for around $600?
    Cheers
    James.

advised by whom? more often than not the drum needs adjusting or worst case the shoes need replacing. Very rarely does the actual module need to be replaced.

My local mechanic opened the module and little fragments of plastic teeth fell out. He says it looks like a result of poor brake adjustment where it has overtightened and then been unable to release causing damage to the gears.
I looked at one of the module repair kits but he has recommended replacing the entire unit.

fair enough. personally I would go with the OEM since it's quite difficult to get in and out - not something you want to chance twice!

Repair kits are regularly a success, but if you can’t do it and your mechanic won’t, then rock and a hard place.

Yep, unfortunately beyond my ability! Neither local mechanic or respected LR Indy want to use the kit, so you're right. Just need to decide on $1700 OEM or $600 ebay lottery (there are also some units advertised as OEM "refurbished" on ebay for $1100, but not sure if that's not just as risky)!

If you do a search on DISCO3.CO.UK - Index for Bodsy's brake bible (link attached below) it should also bring up some of his other links on how to do the job yourself. There are also some good YouTube clips on the same.

Of no help now…once you replace / repair the EPB, ignore all advice and just adjust the EPB with every oil change service. I don’t know what LR schedule is on this…but I have mine adjusted every 10-13k kms with oil changes.
Also do not use the “drive through park brake” option.

I don't bother servicing my D4, life's to busy , maybe more to the point I am old and couldn't be bothered learning a new car, not that its new any more, but anyway a little while ago I mentioned the park brake clean out and adjustment to my mechanic, IMO an exceptional LR indi.
Ho looked at me a bit surprised and asked if it had an issue or made any noise
My response was no never had an issue even after all the 4wding its done and the now 7 years of trouble free ownership
His response was, Ah good, we service it at every service,( for me thats every 10,000km ) and have never seen a failure when they are looked after with cleaning and adjusting as required
    My response, excellent thanks mate
