Hey Guys,
We have a TD4 V6 and have just clicked over 300k km's. Over the past year we started getting intermittent restricted performance faults which have now turned into gearbox faults. Here's a summation of what occurs when the fault comes up:
- Accelerating steadily when it gets to 70-80kmh the car revs don’t stay stable. It surges up and down around 1600 - 2000.
- If the car is travelling over 80kmh and then slows down below 80kmh sometimes if you go to push the accelerator normally it will cause a gearbox fault as you speed up. If you let it fall to below 70kmh and then plant the accelerator to the floor it changes gear above 80kmh with no issue.
- Driving 100kmh on the highway gives us no issues.
- The really hot days, over 35 degrees, seems to cause this issue to increase. It also happens occasionally straight away after filling up fuel.
- We tried on one occasion to use a diesel fuel injector cleaner which seemed to work for a short period.
Just wondering if its a gearbox issue or a fuel injection issue?
D4 TDV6 , TD4 is the 4cyl engine . lift the engine cover and look for oil spray or black sooty deposits, you need to have the error codes read to see if its an engine fault or a transmission fault, the surging aligns with a gearbox torque converter fault but cascading engine faults can also trigger a transmission fault.

You need a code reader - read the codes and report back....
