    Disco 4 Front skid plate

Does anybody know the torque settings for the skid plate bolts. Need to retrieve a dropped spanner now sitting in the skid plate - Ouch!!

I just do them up "tight enough", usually started by hand, spun in with the rattle gun and then nipped up with a 1/2" ratchet. For dropped tools into the tray I have a long (>600mm) gooseneck with a decent magnet on the end which usually avoids the necessity to undo it.

Of course if it's a 10mm it never reaches the tray and just disappears in a cloud of unicorn farts.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the spanner did not reach the skid plate. Hopefully it will get found at the next service.

Where were you working in the engine bay when it dropped?

The positive terminal of the starter battery - fell down between the battery and the engine.

Saw a great mechanic tip video. Put a strong small magnet in a plastic work glove down a finger tip then put your hand in it.

You can then fish around into these places and find the dropped bolt / nut etc.
