    P0273 - Injector 5 Circuit Low (Help)

    My Vehicle is a Disco 4 3.0 TDV6 - 2010 (HSE)
about 3 weeks ago I was driving on the motorway with destination around 45kms' away and speed constant at 120KM/h using cruise control. I felt discomfort in my seating position and decided to not move my seat but instead adjust the lumbar support. Immediately upon pressing the lumbar support buttons, the radio display died. I continued driving as no error messages presented itself on the cluster. At stopping the vehicle on arrival at destination I realised that I could not close the right side rear and driver windows. Similarly the radio was still dead.. I do carry extra fuses and immediately traced the fuses that have blown and replaced 2 of them. did not think much of it at the time so I did not record fuse numbers. nevertheless following replacement of the fuses I started the vehicle to go on an errand. About 1.5 KM from leaving, the restricted performance warning displayed on the cluster. This is the first time ever that this has happened. the vehicle also vibrated oddly as this as well was something I never experienced prior. I drove back the 1.5km in limp mode not forcing the vehicle and keeping a constant 20km/h pace.

I then plugged in my diagnostic tool, got a reading - cylinder 5 misfire, cleared the warning. I also removed the battery terminal for a while and after about 3 hours connected the battery and continued to drive home back the 45kms, with no issues and no warnings. upon arrival at my driveway, the vehicle started to sake vigorously however fortunately we were home.

The next day, performed diagnostic again, with same failure for injector 5 misfire as well as p0273. also received P0200 error (injector circuit malfunction. Was a bit confused as to which cylinder no 5 would be but then proceeded to do resistance test on all injectors. 1,2,3,4,6 were all in range testing up 20 180+ KOhms with reading being instant. Number 5 however struggled to get to 120Komhs.

I then decided to replace the injector, cleared the errors codes and proceeded to start the vehicle. within 30 seconds, vehicle into restricted performance, with no load as I did not attempt to shift into reverse of drive. Vehicle tested as p0273 again and again attempted replacing the injector with another. Similarly restricted performance persisted. Did continuity test on all injector cables from injector point to termination at ECU. Continuity in order. Removed ECU and sent through for diagnostics. ECU was tested on Alien Diagnostic Software and returned as unit not defective. I am at wits end now, please if there is anyone out there that may have experienced this or any similar issue, any help will do.

I’m unlikely to be much help, however does the injector need ‘coding’ to the car? Is there a process in the iidtool to follow, similar to the install new battery or calibrate height?

There also looks to be a misalignment on injector and cylinder numbers? Ie, injector 5 isn’t at cylinder 5 - or is that just on the 2.7?

You are correct. I have the same engine and used my IID to code them. That said, it’s only for fine tuning and I’m not sure it would cause it to drive badly. Before I coded mine it ran fine - I replaced all six in mine when one went bad

Hi, thanks for your input gents - much appreciated - @veebs, quite right there definitely is misalignment between obdii and the cylinder numbers - following your response I investigated further and did a swop out of injector 5 as per firing order and it seems that I was chasing up the wrong cylinder all the time. Fortunately it seems issue is resolved - will replace the injector with a new one as this second hand doesn’t seem to be the best quality but yes I am going again.

Your insights although short and sweet really saved me tons as I was at wits end and nearly had my vehicle towed to LR Aftermarket Workshop.

This is what this forum really excels at - there must be thousands of years of combined experience reading these pages :-)

    Great to hear it’s sorted!
