Dunno what the Prado is setting you back, but I dare say for the money I would expect better than a 'not bad' ride :)
Thousands of people are happy with them, so most likely my experience wasn't a typical one. Probably also helps when its your own vehicle, rather than one you borrowed until your own car felt better...
The Prado can’t even be compared to a D3/4,completely different type of vehicle,designed for a different market.
D3/4 needs to be compared to Y62,or LC200/300.
Not sure about that either. DIL's Y62 makes my D2 look like a RAV4. It's massive. And the interior is Japanese kitsch. Even with the woodgrain delete. It all works very well, but meh.Quote:

So I bought a new one. Sold it after 12 mnths and bought the D4.
182,000 and only brakes, lower control arms, t/belts, and just now the exhaust pipe from the RH turbo. I admit I've replaced the gearchange selector and tailgate actuator but they were pre failure. BTW, that tailgate cable kit from Land Rover Passion is a beauty.
Just about to do the inlet manifolds and oil cooler, but that's only 'cos I'm caravanning on the mainland in June/July/August and its too inconvenient to have those fail then.
Otherwise if staying in Tas I'd love to see what mileage I'd get out of the manifolds.
I drive my eldest son's 2021 Hilux 4WD dual cab quite regularly. These Disco's are definitely worth any so called "pain".
My D1 and D2 are far better to drive than my son's GU, and the whatever HiLux he had before, and are WAY more capable than any RAV.Quote:

Typical naval gazing here from folk trying to feel good about their choices. While both brands have their strengths, the Prado is reliable. Every other week now we are hearing of broken cranks, cracked manifolds, painful belt replacements, etc etc in D4 diesels... so glad I sold my RRS.

So when EVERYONE takes their rose coloured glasses off, yes, the Toyota is more reliable on average than our landies. But certainly not by the wild margin so often claimed, and used to justify inferior performance in other areas like fuel consumption, comfort (very subjective I know), price, unmodified capability, total unoriginality, etc
