If it’s not on YouTube did it ever happen?

The fault of being stuck in 3rd and fault code closely matches the OP issue.

Isn’t there one part of the Zip kit beyond the home mechanic level needing some special tools I thought? The video makes it look quite simple but even making sure you have exactly the right kit for your ZF6 takes some care to work out.

Yeah you’re correct. If you truly refurb the mechatronics there are various vacuum tests to perform and valves that need overboring and new parts. Putting the seal kit through is a basic service, but yeah, a complete overhaul has to be done professionally

I watched that video perthdisco and I think that's what mine needs but it's a real strange problem. Every morning I go out and start the car I get the code if I drive it up the road a k or so pull over clear the code remove the key put key in and start the codes gone and car drives as normal for usually the rest of the day no matter how many time I start and stop it, I've done the transmission flush and that didn't make a difference, I've checked cleaned all elec connection I can find so all I have left from my limited knowledge on the d3 is to replace the solenoids
If anyone has any other ideas it would be appreciated
    Cheers Russ

Definitely rebuild the valve body, new solenoids, separator plate and zip kit.
Unless the galleries in the valve body are badly worn or scored the zip kit will repair any internal leakage as the replacement plungers have orings where the originals don't.
Even as worse case the box needs a rebuild you would do the valve body anyway.
Locking in 3rd is the failsafe and I found that when it did fault and go to 3rd that apart from being sluggish til the speed increased , it had plenty of acceleration which hints to the box being mostly still sound.

The o ringed seals and valves in the zip kit solves most issues. You can get the reaming kit that needs a jig to ensure the bore is done correctly, but my thinking is that if the vb is that far gone, better to get a new or reco'd one.

Definitely get new solenoids, they get blocked and cannot be easily cleaned,
