The GVIF comes with a little 4 button pigtail board that is used to configure and tweak it. I've left it connected and it sits under the console in front of the nav screen. If I need to use it I just pop the console surround off.
The sound is analogue and goes in the Aux input. I only have the standard High-line sound and not the Logic 7, but I have no complaints and I'm pretty picky about my audio. I've left the standard Aux input in place and just blocked it with a modified open circuit 3.5mm stereo plug in the back. It has been trimmed and sealed so it doesn't protrude far enough to prevent the door over the RSE inputs closing in the console. The dummy plug is necessary as the aux input is a shorting switch. With no plug both channels are earthed to prevent noise, so no sound.
I can't tell the difference between an ALAC on my phone and a CD as far as audio goes. Had a hearing test last week and I'm still good to 15KHz, so good enough for me.
