When doing the gearbox filter change my plan next time is to pump out via cooler on Day 1 with engine cold as that way you get the largest sump contents then on Day 2 remove sump after everything fully drains into sump again and that way you should get maximum gearbox oil out.

I check in between the engine oil filter fins each change and am always pleased to see nothing shiny in there at 300k kms. HPR5 for me.

Agree with the trans filter really only needing to be done 80-100k if your doing regular oil changes on the box. The filter on them is more of a rock catcher anyway[tonguewink]. I put an inline filter on my oil cooler line and changed that one more often - worked heaps better in keeping the oil a little cleaner for longer

Magnefine? I used them on both the transmission and power steering on my Landrover recovery vehicle and it was incredible how much cleaner the fluid stayed between changes. Particularly on the transmission.

Yeah magnefine. They work well, but they are a small filter element so if I'd do a bigger filter for the trans next time I do one. Fine for power steering

Out of curiosity, what size filter fits the D4/RRS power steering? My RRS is 2000km away from me at present.
