    Pretty well thought out.

They have a couple of vans now, even the smaller one is way out of our price range....

    Re: Hitch & brake controller
“Best towing setup includes Mitchell Bros hitch and a quality brake controller (Hayman Reese IQ Compact preferred over Redarc).”
Is there a specific reason to avoid the factory Land Rover hitch? Mine is the standard unit rated at 350/3500, so I’m curious what advantages the Mitchell Bros hitch offers beyond the factory setup.

The Land Rover D3/4 hitch was some farmer’s implement repurposed. It hangs too low and makes it hard to level the drawer bar. Fossik on this site - Mitch Hitch.

    Re: Recovery vs touring intent
“Practical recovery and support gear matters more than flashy mods.”

always carry “some recovery gear” - UHF 5w handheld minimum, snatch strap and soft shackles, tyre puncture repair kit and at worst the tiny 12v air compressor you can get from SuperCheap.. water, first aid and snake bite kit, a small auto metric tool kit of reasonable quality, a small folding shovel shoved under the second row seats and a fire extinguisher.

Re: Listed extras (fridge slide, GAP tool, jack, etc.)
A couple of practical questions here
    • Is the stock Land Rover jack adequate when towing, or would you recommend upgrading to something more robust? Completely unfit for purpose. Get a 2 tonne hydraulic jack and a square bit of timber and practice. There is a hack with the air suspension to help you jack it too. A few of us here have put a bottle jack in the factory housing in the drivers side cubby in the boot.

Went instead with an X3 Patriot,Gen 1,it has been very good, and would be as capable as a Tvan.

Luckily enough to pick one up at an extremely good price from a family that never used it,sat in their shed for two years.
Fully optioned, with all the original reciepts, etc.

we are running the Patriot 2022 X1 but would hate to pack up everyday. Definitely a base camp and it is fantastic. Enough room for the dog and children plus a king sized bed.
So my camper is more than 3x the value of my D3. Who cares?
if touring I’d sell my working bit of liver and the left kidney for a Bruder.

The X3 is pretty quick to pack up,but we have no kids with us anymore, just a dog.

We pull the awning down the night before,if not hitched up,also hook the car up,which makes things easier to move on the next day.

The Bruder looks nice,i would also check out the ST5 and 7.
