Maintenance Check Sheet
Try This:
nope thats the right addy points 1-21 in the first list of my very first post...
the hoses last about 5 years
the belts about 3
the idlers about twice the belt and im on my second belt
filters well duh
the rest is all preventative maintenance checks to prevent a slight misadjustment causein excessive wear and causeing premature failure... RE the point about the diff flange bolts made under the list of stuff in the plan.
imagine IF I hadnt checked them lets say Im flat towing a broken LR on a car trailer and engine braking down a hill when all of a sudden clangy clangy clangy twist spit out comes MR propshaft to say hello to the rest of the world....
OR worse still
I didnt check the pinion for play and preload and all of a suddend the 1/32nd of movement causes a taper roller bearing to snag its caseing spit that out inside of the houseing where it gets munched into the pinion/crownwheel mesh side loading the now rear bearingless pinion out of postion and tearing some teeth off of the crownwheel and lodging them into the spiders which then shatter more teeth off and crack a side gear out of position enough that it pops a large section of metal out of the spider gear that falls out of the diff to be picked up by the carrier spun round in the housing tearing that to shreds letting all the parts out before finally crushing into the pinion and crownwheel locking the rear diff and causing my once gentle engine brake around a slight corner with 3 ton on tow into a frensied jack knife followed by an attempt to reset the fastest downhill time by a pair of landrovers...
hrmmm $2k in parts after 3years and 10 months almost to the day and 16 hours out of my life sounds like pretty cheap insurance to me...
and OK Theres a little liberty in there as to the consequences of not doing the checks at 100K but how do you know it was all done correctly at 50k Km?
Mine wasnt.

Further to 100k service.
I assume you wish to service a D3 (this is it's area) and that is the check list shown.
I posted the maintenance check sheet so that you could evaluate what had been done and what you should be charged for. It is also handy if you wish to put your vehicle on a hoist and double check the non-electronic parts of the service.
HOWEVER, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANY ONE, OTHER THAN A PROPERLY EQUIPPED DEALER, TO CARRY OUT A FULL SERVICE !
WHY ?
#47. You need the latest Land Rover diagnostic equipment to interrogate the various ECU's, ascertain any faults, upload the latest patches, clear the fault codes and reset the data logs. To my knowledge, at this time, this equipment is not available from a 3rd. party supplier. (They are still unraveling the complexities of the data systems ).
#49. You will not be able to reset the service interval data which is a computation of factors including real time, fuel used, useage patterns, fault logs and other considerations.
#51. You will not have access to the latest TSB's and software patches, some of which may be critical to the safety and longevity of your vehicle.
Some further notes.
It is important that you tell your servicing dealer about any and all changes in your vehicle's behaviour, particularly any new noises.
To Blknight.aus
I much prefer YOUR method of servicing to that of most dealers, so no I don't think you are over pedantic !
As a matter of interest MY under vehicle checks (remember I'm checking what the dealer has done ) involves a strong flashlight, various spanners and levering implements, sharp eyes and about 1 hour for the RRS which is only a SWB, streamlined D3
