D3 Spare wheel mounting

RichardK uses the 4x4Intelligence rear wheel mount, whereas Arthur and I (the other two in the D3 Trips thread with carriers) use the one supplied by Opposite Lock.

Both of them fit directly to the existing rear bumper (well actually the steel chassis extension underneath it) and can be fitted by any competent DIY'er.

As to whether they'd foul the Mitchell Bro's hitch, I don't _think_ so - the clip for the carrier is fitted fairly close to the rear recovery point, but I don't think it would get in the way, as long as you fitted the wheel carrier first.

Apparently, they are trying to get Kaymar to change their design. I await this with interest.:p:p:p

Just mod the kaymar as required.

I think you misunderstood me. You are thinking of the Kaymar carrier. The Opposite Lock and the 4x4Intelligence carriers do _not_ use a steel bar or swap out the existing bumper. So they should not affect the fitting of the hitch.

Hi Will,

I had Haggis here on Saturday and we trial fitted the hitch.

Unfortunately the hitch doesn't bolt straight up, the Kaymar bar needs some minor mods to make it fit. The Kaymar bar will need to be notched by approx 5mm to allow the hitch to slide into the OE recovery point and the bottom edge of the Kaymar bar needs to be slightly bent up to allow the 2 lower mount holes of the hitch to bolt into place. It is so close to fitting and they look like they are meant to be together.

I am approaching Kaymar to change the design of their bar to suit our tow hitch, hopefully they are open to my ideas!! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/im.../2007/11/2.jpg

Thats the whole reason I got the Kaymar as I had modified my plastic bumper a few times till it was just hanging on by a thread :D, not a great look at all :eek:
