I get the same fuel consumption as you're showing if driven at 100-105 kmh. Put on a rooftop tent, 2 tonnes of trailer and drive at 110 then it really sucks down. While I'm Perth based, I originally used my D3 on gas pipeline work in Victoria, so took the opportunity to have the Long Range Automotive factory install a tank. It's worked a treat, allowing for 1200 km trecks. I don't recall the cost but it's around the cost of filling both tanks 3 times :oQuote:

I know the speed limit in the UK on most of the motorways is 70MPH, I'd be guessing that's what it's optimised for?

Mine is no where near as agressive as the old TD5. The TDV6 does need more torque to hold a more constant cruise speed. I also have a little VW TDI (1600 kgs and 320 nm torque) and it is great.
Dealer told Me of this, whilst showing Me the rules of play, when I took delivery.
He said to accelerate up to 75% of the required/ set speed, with the foot, then let the cruise take over gently via the resume set speed function. He said to do it from much lower percentages would result in aggressive acceleration.
I have heard of this problem on the Pajero. In fact it was so bad that it caused an accident in wet weather.
I have fond that my cruise control will be anything from 5kmh fast to 5kmh slow when on the open Rd going up and down hills, I have checked this on the GPS so always set just below the speed limit by about 2kmh. Not to bad in Qld as you have about 5% margin but not so down Vic and NSW.
