Tyre wear is more about the make of tyre than the size. The factory Goodyears are pretty poor for wear, I've got 21000 Km on mine now and the tyres are probably 60 - 70% worn. The General Grabbers seem to be going ok though, there are a few threads, have a search.Quote:

One of the reasons that I bought my D3 was for the 17" wheels. It gave me a higher profile tyre (ie more configurable off-road) and a greater range of tyres.
While >17" tyres may look great in the street, I have been VERY happy with the 17s.
These days 17 is the min I think for a new large 4wd - because of the brake size (because of increased vehicle size you need bigger brakes) and looks
Changing the rim size from 17 to 19 inch does not mean you get a bigger tyre. The Aust Design Rules allow a 15mm increase in tyre diameter from standard size, as has been said in earlier posts bigger rims gets smaller sidewall heights.
I want to change from 18" to 17" rims as I then can get a light truck rated tyre which will handle the heat and corrugations while towing a 3 ton van. I had several tyres delaminate on my last trip around Oz as they were not able to handle the heat etc, though without the load and van that same brand of tyre's are great for the car on its own.
