D3 FUEL ECONOMY WHATS YOURS LIKE

Thanks everyone for the advice. Keep them coming. The v6 in the classifieds looks like being the cheaper option , But if it is no good for towing then i'll look at the td or v8 i have noticed some early model v8 HSE's going in the 40 grand range . For me the vehicle spends most of the time in the shed (not my daily driver ) so a little thirstier is't a big problem and i do like the HSE appointments over the SE . A HSE TDV6 would be ideal if at the right price might have to wait a little longer for price drops see how it goes never know.

I was surprised on a trip back from somewhere when Tim was following me in his TDV6. An overtaking lane appeared and we were stuck behind something slow. I floored it in the V8 to overtake and he kept up remarkably well.

That isn't a scientific test, but it does show that there is more get up and go in the diseasel than you might expect. I don't think that Tim has changed his chip or anything.

Have a look at the overlander tow test if you interested in towing...for my money it would be the TDV6 for my 2 tonn boat. My 02 V8 5 speed Manual (this makes a big difference in series 1 and 2 vehicles for towing) tows the Vagabond well but I have no doubt that the TDV6 would be better again....I know I know...can believe im actually saying that and i have yet to drive one, but the specs are impressive and all the tow tests with the TDV6 are amazing in the mags..

dunno really, I know on paper it has nice torque numbers but I would think there would be a lot of up and down in the gears to keep her moving.

Mine used to be really good. I got as low as 8l/100km once.

It's now around 12.5l-13.5l/100km but I still have the roof rack on, which I will finally remove after easter ( and two years of saying "I'll remove it next weeked").

I've noticed a marginal improvement since remapping and EGRing.

Just had a software upgrade for the turbo vanes and the transmission. Around town economy has gone from 14.5 L/100km to 12.3 L/100km.
Pick up at low revs is better and gear changes smoother.:BigThumb:

Got 10.4 Litres/100 klms Sydney/Kimberleys/ via Tanami, Gibbn River, Great Cental/Oodnadatta Tk, Broken Hill Etc. 14,500kms, weight at Newman public weighbridge 3.22 tonnes...abt 3,500 klms dirt roads. Abt 13 L/100k around town.
