I wonder how much difference in life there is between the passenger and LT versions.

Thats a good point Graeme, I noted that the Pirelli Scorpion ATR in the 245/70R 17 size was a LT which is what I would prefer, I'm not sure if it is available in that size in a passenger I will have to check the site again. I was also suprised that the tyre could be a little noisy, as the pattern does not look that aggressive. I will check with a friend of mine with regards to noise he has just fitted a set on a Land Cruiser.
Thanks for your comments Howard, have not ordered yet. Am also aware of the scorpions. Seems there is a real "love/hate" relationship with Coopers in the extreme.....especially by the tyre dealers in Kunnunarra who seem to loathe Cooper. I suspect that no tyre is bullet proof in harsh conditions with a heavy load (3.22 tonnes in my case on last year's Kimberley trip)
For the kind of conditions I expect to experience in the future, I think the Coopers S/T will do as best all rounder of a limited offering. STT's are really too aggressive for me.
Thanks RMP.
I'll have to see if they will do a special order for me, otherwise I'll have toimport them myself.
245/70/17 MFG mud an option too.
I've asked GY if they will bring in 4 MTRs in 245/70-17 (119/116 LI) and mentioned that there might be others interested too. They haven't got back to me yet, but if they will bring some in, I'll start a thread to let others know if they want to contact GY to order for themselves at the same time. If interested, it might be a good time to contact GY anyway to help them make up their minds.
Did the rounds with tyre dealerships on the coast.
Ended up with a set of Cooper 235/70r 17" ATR 111s.
Good overall with Road/Mud/Dirt/Sand applications.
Around $290.00 + GST.
No real road noise, but dealers mentioned to rotate tyres every
5-10k or every service, as they tend to scollop edges.
Tyres have 60k warranty>
See how we go !!!
Well, got 5 new Cooper S/T's last week, $325 each fitted...with mixed feelings. Bit noisey. But just learnt that there is now a BFG A/T in a 245/70R17 available!!!!!! Got 2 good Wranglers for sale...see markets.
