Low E windscreen available yet?
I saw the reference to UV filtering in an earlier post and a response as well, but I was not clear as to if some sort of heat filtering glass was yet available.
Here in Canada, we use the term Low E which refers to Low Emissivity, a characteristic of the glass that does not allow heat to transfer thru, or at least reduces the heat transfer without reducing the light transfer.
For heat rejection, this means the glass has Infra Red rejection characteristics, and this is not quite the same as Ultra Violet rejection, nor is it any form of tinting.
GM, Ford and Chrysler routinely install Low E windscreens, side, and rear glass in most all their domestic vehicles here as that allows them to install smaller air conditioners and hence improve upon their respective CAFE, (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), ratings.
It seems however that none of the EU manfacturers install or even make available Low E glass for their vehicles, (the sun never shines in Europe, I think), or even for their vehicles shipped to North America. Land Rover does option Low Sound glass, (the little ear symbol), but that is about all I have ever seen.
As such, I wondered if Low E glass was available in Australia - somehow I think not with Land Rover, but maybe with Holden and Ford?
