The odd boing?

Off subject a little, but with regards to disabling the chime (eg ignition on, seat belt clipped in and out 9 times in a short period) worked for me and many thanks for the tip. In some situations the constant chime can drive you mad when your seat belt is off. I find it a particular problem when poking around my property shooting vermin.

I also found that repeating the same procedure on the 9th time you reclip the seat belt the chime sounds once and the seat belt chime is reactivated.

I also am getting the odd "boing" with my newly purchased 08 Disco 3 TDV6 SE (I am in love with it) whilst driving and can't for the life of me work out what it is...

It has happened a few times when driving and I am wondering (your thoughts are appreciated) if it is to do with the suspension auto levelling to get the best aero dynamics? A few times it happened when transferring from highway driving to normal roads, anyone else noticed this? Could this be the case?

I also saw no warning lights / messages / etc and it was just one single chime. It sounds as if it is a chime when something is wrong however with no lights / warning messages I can't help but think it's either an automatic suspension alert or an error?

This has happened both with people belted in seats and only myself in the car with nothing on the seats. Also this occurs after a fair while of driving and not just after startup.

No chimes occur when levelling unless there's a fault.

PS. It doesn't level for aero dynamics, only levelling because the average height of 1 or more corners or axle pairs isn't within the tolerance band for the particular height setting and speed.

I was going to put up a new thread on gongs but this is a good as any.

From time to time, requests on how to stop the door open gong with the key in ignition have been posted - other than some flippant response no one has had a solution that does not disable something else.

My car either chimes for 60 secs and stops or chimes forever (not sure what triggers the 60s chime or the ongoing one.

It has been about 10 months since the topic has been rasied - so anyone found out how to stop the door chime without also disabling something else - like inside lights, other aspects that need the key in the ignition.

There's a D4 CCF option to enable/disable the key in the ignition warning that seems to be a carry-over from the D3 because the D4 doesn't use a key, so I suspect its there in the D3 CCF too. The stopping after a time is like the D4's door open with the engine running chime which also eventually stops but which doesn't occur if the door is opened whilst still moving. Perhaps there's something similar with the D3.

Trying a different track..... what is your left foot doing at the time?

Light brush of the brake pedal will give you a 'boing'.

I assume there is not much frost or snow on the ground these days in Australia, or ever.

I presume however that your vehicles have the "It is +4C or lower" warning software built into your vehicles, same as the rest of the world, or at least the EU and North America.

These days, everytime I start up, there is a bong and a snow symbol lights up for a few seconds down on the exterior temperature display to say that the outside air temperature is +4C or lower. There is no way to turn it off which is annoying as it bongs at each startup about 200 days a year here. My wife's Passat has the same software, but without the bong. - just the snowflake showing on the display for a bit.

I don't think that would be it unless it showed a little flame & boinged for over 40 degrees C.
I live in the Gulf Country which is well into the tropics & the current daily top is over 40c. Of course it is a lot cooler in the winter/dry season, the early mornings can be a couple of degrees below 20, real jumper & Trackie Dackie stuff.
My D3 has never been out of the tropics so I don't think that is it.
BTW The boinging has become less frequent as time has gone on, I have not driven the car much due to a previously discussed tyre problem but, it definitely boings less often.

PS Boing is a new word yet to be added to the Oxford Dictionary.

I recall often seeing the snowflake when driving around in winter here but I do not recall hearing a 'gong' or 'bong'.

I guess it might be part of the cold weather pack that I assume your car has.

That is an interesting thought. The dealers say that they cannot turn off the +4C bong. Your comment makes me think that maybe with a Faultmate, one could. I had just assumed that all 3's everywhere has the +4C bong and that it was permanently built into the base software.

I suppose if there was a hot climate package, then as jonesfam suggested, there might be a flame symbol at perhaps +40C. The odd time I have seen +40C, I regarded that as not good and worthy of some sort of warning. Also that would be some sort of equal treatment in that all 3's would bong at least 200 days a year regardless of where they were.
