About 10 months ago, I got one for my (now decreased) D3. Two months later the policy just about paid for itself (bushes problem, had to cut off bolts, some other smaller stuff). This was through Allianz via my dealer and I just had to sign that the work was done. Alas, the D3 was stolen and torched last month. Turns out that Allianz is refuning pro-rata my policy, so it only cost me 11/36 of $2100. How's that for amazing?
I would definitely get the Allianz one. Have claimed the instrument pack, new compressor, front lower ball joints and bushes, recirc motor (fart noise) on aircon, various components when airbag warning light has come on, couple of seals along the drive line, new ashtray and a couple of other things that dont come to mind right now. Even payed to tow the car. Has more than payed for itself. Using this and another site I have been able to pick the issues early on and havent had any for a while. Well worth the $2000
I got the extended Warranty through Austral, 4 years as you can pass it on to the next owner, and I think if I cancel it I can get what ever is left back (don't quote me on that). But I have already had my compressor replaced and a temp gauge (or something like that) replaced no problems because of the warranty. Like any insurance you hope never to need it, but if you do then thank your lucky stars for that great decision to get it!

Whilst I still have two years left on the factory warranty, I made Dad purchase the Allianz warranty late 2008 when the warranty was due to run out on his 2005 TDV6 S. He has only made one claim so far, a new gearbox and at just over $5k to replace he has more than got his money back.
I have heard a rumour that Allianz are reviewing the Discoveries as an acceptable risk due to the high claim rates as opposed to the low number of policies sold in Australia.
I am starting to think now may be a good time to part with some cash and at least if they do happen to drop the Discoveries I am covered to the end of 2014.

My D2 is out of the extended Allianz extended warranty in May this year.They have been good,so has the car with very little faults,so in my case i would have been better without it,but that is what insurance is all about.Quote:

Just adding to this thought - you can stop using the muppets right from the start. No dealer can make you use their services and withhold warranty. Servicing needs to be done by a qualified mechanic.Quote:

In terms of extending warranty - I think one needs to consider the vehicle's history. I'll be taking it out on Grover as it's warranty claim list resembles the New York phone book and it is currently booked in for a new transfer case and synchro on the gearbox.
If the vehicle had been trouble free for a period I might not have bothered.

I have had heaps of vans go to the local Mitsy dealer over the last 19 yrs or so,and never had any real problems,just started at toyota with our latest vans,& so far so good..
