    Mark,

I have contracted Austral regarding extended warranty for my Defender - I spoke with Jarrod - he told me that all vehicles that Austral now offer extended warranty on are done through National Warranty Company - not Allianz.

I have the booklet - It covers Jaguar, Volvo and Land Rover and is entitled, "Extension to manufacturer's warranty"....

I'm still studying the fine print, but its $2695.00 for 4 years and 120k.

One needs to keep up to date with scheduled services (doesn't have to be done by a dealer) and the receipt for each service must be sent to NWC within 1 week of service being done. Doesn't cover internal items in the vehicle though or body work.

    Allianz Extended Warranty 3 years /160,00km D4 SE $3590

I just got a quote from Trivett Parramatta's finance/warranty staff and for a D4 3.0 SE it is $3590 for an extension of the factory warranty for another 3 years and to a maximum km reading of 160,000km.

She told me prices had gone up by 50% since 6 months ago.

I think I'll see how things go before signing up to one on my new D4 when it arrives.

I think as long as you purchase before the factory warranty runs out you are ok. Unless they have changed the conditions.

I think for most insurers it doesn't matter that much because they insure against risk not continuity. When I got mine the insurer had the vehicle checked thoroughly to disclose any existing conditions, and that was prior to the manufacturers warranty expiring. They won't insure (that is, provide a warranty for) anything older than 6 years too.

Austral offered me another one and I told them what I thought of the PDS. Looks like they listened!

I bought the Allianz one elsewhere.

The price for NWC cover is ~$2400 (2 years) for a D3 and there's too many "outs" for them for me. ie:

2.3 - Basically there's no right of review to RWC. If you're not happy you can contact the dealer or the Office of Fair Trading.
2.8 - RWC... will pay reasonable costs to repair the failed components commensurate with the vehicles age and km travelled.
2.10 - Repairs will only be done for mechanical damage, not parts that are worn but still serviceable.

Consider this with the "continued use" and "wear and tear" clauses in their PDS.

4.x - Regular servicing at 10,000k or 6 months for a car with < 200,000km and send the invoice to RWC within 7 days.
5.7 - "You may, on occasion, be requested to contribute to the cost of repairs........" See their PDS re this being a "discretionary product", not insurance.

LR Service told me that RWC will ring around to get the cheapest repair cost so they often lose the work. The LR guy I spoke to wouldn't recommend this cover.

    No thanks, not for me.

    Extended Warranty

    Evening Folks,

(Posted this earlier this eve in the Defender area but feel it is just as relevant here for those trying to work through extended warranty options)

My first post after subscribing this evening. So good to be here and thanks for having me!

Am in the process of purchasing a 2008 D3 with 55K on the clock & just under 12 months factory warranty left to go. Would love to be able to purchase the Allianz product that is being referred to here. Both ULR & MLR here in Melbourne shrugged their shoulders at the mention of any extended warranty. I spoke to Austral in Brisbane who recommended NWC & then to NWC directly here in Tarralgon, VIC.

Austral quoted inflated prices to those shown in the PDS (probably their cut) as follows:
    1 year - 30,000km extension = $2045
    2 year - 60,000km extension = $2295
    3 year - 90,000km extension = $2495
    4 year - 120,000km extension = $2695

Personally, while the folk at Austral were friendly I'm unimpressed with everything NWC said, did, emailed and have on their website. View the PDS downloadable here on the NWC site: Automotive

Way too many if's and buts in the NWC PDS documentation for my liking along with a personal gut feeling that clearly says to me: beware.

So, my question: Where can I purchase the Allianz Product here in Victoria? If not, is Southern Cross Towoomba the only option? Would appreciate any specific experiences &/or to hear from anyone who has recently purchased the Allianz product through a LR dealer.

    Cheers,

    Bell

    Thanks

As per advice on this thread I followed up with Southern Cross Automotive Group & spoke to Luke Teys (Business Manager
P: (07) 4690 2307; Mob: 0438 310 583). His quote for Allianz product warranty extension for 3 years / 60,000kms is $2,393.34. This includes a 10% discount to AULRO members - so if you're planning on going there ask for it! It's a big investment but I believe one well spent. Thanks again all for the advice I received.

    Cheers,

    Brett.

Thanks heaps for this Bell! I gave Luke a call this morning and he was very helpful. The quote of $2,393.34 was still valid for the D4 3.0SE. As soon as I mentioned the internet he knew it was from AULRO, and told me he's done around 3 quotes in 3 days.

Originally I was baulking at the earlier quote of $3590 and thought to leave it later, but at this price I will be getting one as soon as the car arrives. Now I'm trying to figure out whether I can get this paid for through my lease so potentially save the GST.

Allianz PDS attached, courtesy of SC LR.

Keep in mind that this policy is for 3 years or 60,000km only and up to a total odometer reading of 160,000km.

Otherwise its reads a lot better than the NWC policy.
