    iPod Device Error

    Hi guys

I am getting the iPod Device Error message when I plug in an ipod / iphone's.

When i plug in an iPod touch, iPhone 5 or iPhone 6 the screen says Connecting iPod and then after a short while device error.

I have a genuine Land Rover 30 pin cable and also a aftermarket lightning cable and both show device error

I have also tried a genuine Apple 30pin to lightning adapter and this results in device error also.

I have updated to the latest software ios version on my iPhone 5 and 6 and still results in device error.

I have reset both iphones and this results in device error also.

    Any ideas guys?

my 2010 was at Land Rover for a repair in Dec2012 , they did a " complimentary upgrade" ....

    hahahaha anyhoo

I asked specifically about why this message comes up and was it a software fix . The answer was that apple have changed thier software along the way and it is not backdatable . I have ipods and iphone going back to generation 1 and none work .

So i think its a case of 'aux in'

Both the ipod nano and iphone 8 work fine when plugged in using the 30 pin to lighting adapter. No software updates since i got the car in 2013.
I do get the device error occasionally and have to unplug and replug (sometimes multiple times) to clear it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have not even been able to get the USB to work with a USB Thumb Drive formatted in FAT32 with .mp3 files on the drive.

I have checked the connector under the glove box lid and also under the center console, both looked ok so I removed and reconnected both cables with no change.

I have tried the unplug / replug many times with no luck.

I'm starting to think there might be a wiring issue or something else.

I did try the Aux in and it worked fine.

It would be great to get the USB and iPod connectors working though. Any ideas?

    Fix

For those that are interested I found a fix for this problem:

My iPhoneX was working fine with my 2010 Discovery, but when I reinstalled my phone it stopped working. After scratching my head for a few weeks, I found the problem was I didn't have any music setup in the Apple Music app. When the phone first connects to the car (through the cable, with adapter), it tries to play the first track in Apple Music. If there is nothing there it errors.

The fix was to add (through iTunes) an MP3 of silence (GitHub - anars/blank-audio: Set of blank MP3 audio files). When the phone is plugged into the car it plays the silence and works for all the other apps that require audio (eg Spotify, Google Maps, Audible etc).

    I hope this helps.
