Sounds like the phone module in the car is stuffed then.

You can replace the original module with a newer one, the last ones from the L322 Vogue had updated software in them, seem to work fine with newer phones.

Not exactly plug & play as the power connector on the modules are different, you need to change the connector, solder a couple of wires.

Meh. Soldering a couple of power wires is still plug and play in my book. Rewiring half the car and having a million software bugs to sort out is not. Thanks for that

Dunno if it helps, but in the new Kenworths I set my phone to "visible" and press the phone button on the radio. Within a couple of seconds they find each other, and job's done.

    Magic?

OK... so this fixed itself. Everything works perfectly now, and has done for a couple of weeks. Only thing I've done is hook up the Rovacom iQ when it arrived and download the CCF and clear all codes (previously had cleared codes a few times with a Nanocom). Indie reckons the BT module is part of the audio headunit on the local stuff (not a separate module like on US/UK ones). I pulled a BT module out of a UK-delivered RRS but could not find it in mine anywhere so couldn't replace it. Only thing I can think of is there was a software glitch somewhere that was reset? Modern cars, eh?
