Why is there a larger difference between prices of RRS's from 2008 to 2009 compared to say 2007 to 2008 or 2009 to 2010? I want a TDV8 RRS really bad, it must have rear diff lock and every 4WDing option possible because I want to give it a run for its money.
But when I look at prices, it seems the 2009 model must have something different. I think it might be the dash, but maybe there is more...? Was the Disco 4 released 2009 and the chassis different or something?
Are the older models prone to failure and it took them until 2009 to fix the issues?
If you are you referring to MY10 built in 2009 then, yes its the D4 equivalent vs D3 model upgrade.
MY12 RRV 4.4 TDV8 AB, +LLAMS, +e-diff, +ACC stop/go. Produce LLAMS for LR/RR, Jeep GC/Dodge Ram
VK2HFG and APRS W1 digi
2009 was about when the updated L320 was released - that will explain the price increase.
I think you will be waiting for a long long long time to get what you want. Generally these vehicles were not used off road and certainly not often enough to be fully offroad kitted out. Yes the electronic diff lock is a great traction aid but in normal offroad use doesn't add a lot over the standard traction control.
Now when you say kitted out - what are you wanting. There is no legal bullbar, there is no legal hidden winch mount, the external winch mount is hideous, you can get bash plates etc but very few cars are fitted with them. You can get a long range tank but then that means a spare wheel carrier which does not look good. Really not many RRS are kitted out as such. There is no snorkle but the OEM RAI can be modified into one.
You will either look for a D4 or get your RRS and kit it out your self.

I agree with above, late 2009 released cars were MY10 and the last of the L320 with tdv8. The MY10 got a much nicer interior and some external style changes. It would be my choice. Llams is the 1st accessory I would consider for off road work, and disabling EGRs for engine health, then DBS, then tyres, then maybe roof rack/bars with pod.
I love the 3.6 in my L322.

Thanks Garry,
The plan was to kit it out myself, I meant with the standard factory offroad options like a tow pack and diff lock. I've worked out the legality of the bull bar is an issue, but it can be done using a D3 or D4 bar as far as i'm aware. My spare tire would likely be hanging off a custom rear bar anyway. Thanks for the heads up on the snorkel.
Obviously the the D3 and D4 were made for what I want, but they just don't come with a TDV8 or look as cool. If I could put the TDV8 in the D2a I have i'd almost be satisfied.
You're correct with the Disco bullbars fitting although it might be different with the facelift models as the headlights and grille are a little different. I have a 2007 rrs supercharged with a disco 4 bullbar fitted. It bolted straight up with the only issue being the small oil cooler radiator needing relocating. On the tdv8 I believe they have an auxiliary radiator there but it still needs mounting somewhere. As for the legality, well it's most likely not legal but I see no reason for it to be unsafe since no modifications are required and it bolts straight up.
Any pics to share, dtripp? Opp Lock?

Dont Jazzman you'll destroy it. the suspension arms won''t last what you put vehicles through LOL.
Just do a search on the Forum - there are plenty of pics of a RRS with a D3 bar on. Now these are not legal but only because they have not been tested and do not carry compliance stickers/plates for the RRS. As was mentioned they will be safe but just don't comply. I would be happy to put one on my car and run the risks (roadworthy/insurance) but have chosen not to as in my 8 years of ownership, living in the country have not seen the need - again a risk decision.
Some examples.
