Belt tensioner or idler pulley, water pump ?
Hi All,
I have a 2008 RRS 2.7 TDV6 116,000km which has a noise from the engine. I'm a qualified mechanic and have had a good look and listen(even bought a new stethoscope).Engine has good oil pressure. The noise is consistent with engine RPM, does not increase under power and seems to disappear at higher RPM although it may be the rest of the engine /fan noise tending to taking over. Using the scope the noise appears to come from the front of the block area but difficult to pinpoint. I've had the timing belt covers off and checked valve timing etc. The belts and tensioner /guide pulley's were replaced at 100000 km.I also suspected maybe a torque converter issue however no change to noise under stall test conditions.I know some early versions of these engines had bottom end issues. I suspect excessive main bearing wear/clearance but in one instance while waiting at the traffic lights the noise completely disappeared for about 10 seconds and that doesn't happen with worn bearings. It starts, runs and drives fine.It is not a tappet or top end rattle but more of a deep rumble. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Any fuel pressure or injector irregularities? Live values for the injectors might give a clue.

If you caught it before it went bang surely you can just replace faulty bits? I see Turner Engineering in Uk sells bearings rods pistons etc
