To set the scene, my daily is a 2003 Ford Explorer V8. Cracking little 4.6L small block that sounds the biz and rides like a boat heading out through the heads. It is actually quite a nice car and I've never really had a problem with it except for a ball joint and a tie rod end. Full leather, 7 seater, cruise, heated seats, low range etc..
So I am cruising along the other day and a RRS pulls up next to me at the lights. Here's me thinking it's a little diesel and I will delight in unleashing the wrath of the 180kw ford eight and smurk to myself the rest of the day. How sadly mistaken I was.. we weren't even through the intersection and it was clear it was no 'little diesel' and I had to be damn quick to make out 'supercharged' on the tail gate. Turns out it was a 2010 supercharged RRS and it literally blew me away. And that ****ing sound.. my god.
Now I am in the market for one. 2010-2012 will fit the budget ($35-45k), I've spotted two one owner cars on carsales with full service history. 2010 has 100k on it and the 2012 63k.
My research thus far has me looking out for the following issues:
1. Timing issues - what am I up for and when?
2. Compressor for air suspension - looks relatively inexpensive ($1-2k)
3. Make sure trans is serviced stat if it hasn't been already
4. Run like a cheetah if one service record is missing
Anything else you find people can share with me? Oh I should've mentioned I own a Defender 110 200tdi that I've been lovingly tipping hard earned into and a few other toys that have maintenance bills that shouldn't be!
Thanks in advance for your contributions..

The tensioners on the timing chains were upgraded to stop them wearing in 2012 I think. it would be worth finding out what VIN number that was.....
