I am sorry, but just sounds like a normal diesel rattle to me. My 2.7 sounds exactly the same.

My Dads L320 2012 v6 3l td with 46000kms has this rattle in drive or reverse but not in park-neutral. I’ve narrowed the location to around the front crank pulley listening with a screwdriver on the block. I’m thinking more timing related, grateful for any help.

I would get it checked professionally very quickly as IMO there's significantly more than just a diesel rattle. Engaging drive or reverse loads the crankshaft.
