    2008 Range Rover Sport Tdv6 - Limp Mode

    Hi Guys Looking for some advice.

    Recently purchased the car from interstate, drove it for a few Kilometres and all sorts of lights lit up, suspension dropping and limp mode, restart all is fine and then get down the road a little more and the same happens.

    Was in the welshpool area so i dropped into a independent who switched out the HPFP and the EGR valves would need sorting at a later date but the car was still lighting up the dashboard.

    I decided to get a gap iid tool and had various codes pop up, speaking to Gap they said to ignore the U codes but focus on the P.

    Drove the car, it faulted with the Gap installed and i got the following reading

    P2290-00 (2F) Injector control pressure too low

    The next day i drove it again and i got a different code.

    P0087-00 (2C) Fuel Rail/System Pressure too low.

    After doing some research on this forum and others i checked the fuel filter, it looked new, however the yellow water sensor wire that usually comes from the bottom, seems to be missing, could this be whats causing my issues before i look into replacing the Lift Pump.

    2008 Range Rover Sport Tdv6 - Limp Mode

    No - the missing water sensor won’t be causing it to go into limp mode. That is just lazy servicing as you are meant to transfer the water sensor to the new fuel filter, but some slack buggers can’t be bothered.

    I would suggest you contact Darren at Aztech 4x4 and book it for an inspection.

    Thanks for the reply, i didn't think so but thought i would ask just incase.

    The EGR valve issue is one that concerns me more, i watched the log from my GAP tool and noticed the EGR valves went to zero before the loss of fuel pressure.

    Unfortunately there can be different reasons for it going into limp mode. This may give some more ideas to look at.

    Those codes are not influenced by the EGR. They are characteristic of a fuel system issue. Sometimes a blocked fuel filter, sometimes a stuffed LPFP, often the HPFP and very rarely the return line from the filter to the tank.

    HPFP has been replaced, so I guess I need to look at the LPFP next

    Yowza. That's the most expensive part in the parts canon. Unusual to replace that without doing the proper diagnostics.

    The independent ran a low pressure test and then the diagnostics and said it was the HPFP.

    Pleasing thing about your comment is the LPFP should be a lot cheaper 🙈.

    A *bit* cheaper. The problem is if he's run a low pressure test and that passed then the LPFP is probably fine, and the fuel filter also.

    I'm different in that I spent the best part of 6 months logging, testing and diagnosing mine before condemning the HPFP, even though multiple voices on this forum spent months going "It's the HPFP" (and they were right), I wanted absolute proof before I spent $2k.

    Another thing it *could* be is a chronically spilling injector and/or faulty fuel pressure sensor.
