I dont believe it would select neutral ever by itself unless you did with the stick.
It may well be just keeping the revs up for take off, ive noticed similar behaviour when braking/cornering.
So my 2012 RRS SDV6, when I come to a stop the rpm stays at 850 before dropping down to 700 idle after perhaps 5 seconds. This seems to allow the transmission to select neutral, where as prior to the rpm drop it feels like its still in gear.
Is this normal for this transmission? Is this a I'm ready to take off straight away thing?
It did this prior to transmission oil and filter change and I thought that would solve it. But the behaviour has remained. Meanwhile the transmission has done new adaptions and is going very nicely.
Thoughts?

I get what your saying, but by neutral I mean no clutches engaged, transmission free wheeling with just the torque converter load as opposed to in gear and loaded up. You can feel the car pulling, which makes for a rough stop. Then the rpm drops down and the pull drops off and everything is normal per every other auto transmission I've ever driven. Which leaves me wondering if it's normal due to programming for a RRS or I have a transmission fault. Perhaps the rpm is dialing back too slowly. So it could be an EMU fault or setting.
Hopefully those with RRs with ZF 6HP26 transmissions can shed light.
Happy New Year to everybody. Hopefully 2023 is lockdown and virus free, with flat interest rates and lowering inflation.
Do you have gap diagnostics tool ? i will check my rpm on stopping when it is home next
