Very nice bit of kit Graeme, and same build date as mine. Remarkably low kilometres for a three year old car too. Good find. Are you going to get an extended warranty, or is it too late for that?
I'm just about to shell out $3.5k to extend mine....begrudgingly, I'll admit, but with my LRA history it's probably worthwhile insurance.
Thanks Greg. Its a pity that the vehicle will rarely be cleaned as its rather futile here especially any time it rains, not that I'm wanting too many dry periods as nothing grows in dust.
Its now out of warranty unfortunately. It was still just in warranty by a few days when I made an unsuccessful offer on it late June. However I didn't take extended warranty on the D4 and would not have done do for this one either.
A disadvantage of such low kms is that its unlikely to have had updates that have become available during that time. It might not have ever been serviced but should have had annual services if done by the book. I've asked for the turbo drain fix but haven't had any feed-back yet. I'll be asking that it have software updates that would have been free if done under warranty a month ago although they may have been done. One with 30K may have been a better proposition but I'm chuffed that I got this one as I think its quite special.
Mmmm...I'm wondering if mine has had any software updates. I don't know how to tell. I should take it down to the dealer and get them to run a computer over it to check.
Don't blame you for ignoring the extended warranty, but then again you're technically proficient. I shudder at the thought of getting stranded again on our next trip and not having the warranty to justify LR recovering us.
Re low kilometres in three years, that would worry me - sounds like a lot of very short trips. Surely the service history is in the book that came with your car?
I get mine serviced every 6 months, just to be safe.
I don't have the car yet and forgot to check the book during my brief visit. However I'm not bothered about the life its had because its not as though the engine has been subjected to 3 harsh Alpine winters without a decent run each time where condensation gets into the oil and never evaporates. I'll change the engine oil and filter soon after getting it home unless its just been changed.
My D4 could have done with extended warranty for its failed gearbox stator bushes. However I wasn't prepared to meet the warranty dealer servicing requirements because of the distance from the nearest dealer and overall was no worse off financially. Hopefully I can overcome any breakdown away from civilisation and may acquire a set of Bilstein rear shocks as spares for harsh conditions.
Funny that my D4 hasn't had the stator bearing problem yet. I will get it checked and serviced again soon and if necessary preemptively recon the transmission so it doesn't fail on one of my many trips.
Congratulations on the new car. It looks very good. What are you doing with the D4?
I suspect that your early gbox oil changes has had a very beneficial effect on the life of these stator bushes.
One of my sons has his sights set on owning the D4.
Only that this one cost more than I intended paying for a vehicle and with no kids left at home to sell, had to find something else to sell ... :).
Congratulations Graeme. But I hope you'll still be frequenting the lowly D3/D4 forum section [emoji3] now you're moving up in the world.
