Speedo, odometer conversion to KMH 2003 L322 Vogue

I am new to this forum, having just purchased a 2003 L322 Range Rover Vogue.
So far, it's a great car. It was a 'Personal Import' from the UK two years ago.
Unfortunately, it has a MPH/KMH speedo and miles odometer, which kinda drives me nuts.
    My question, well two questions.......
    1. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement guage dial in KMH?
    2. Does anyone know where I can have the odometer/trip meter converted to kms? Or, if it can actually be done.
My other option is to replace the whole cluster with an Aussie delivered one.
Okay! one more question...... Anyone know where I might get a complete instrument cluster?
Hope some of the experts on here can help.

    Cheers. Bob.

Had a problem with the dash in my MY05 TD6. This was before I took delivery from independate dealer. They took it to Ritters to be first fixed & then ultimatly whole instrument cluster was replaced. As it was done under warrenty I have no idea of cost but did a bit of looking about & think the cluster would have been about $800 without fitting & programing.
You should also check to see if current cluster odometer can be reprogrammed to change from Miles - Km's. I would think a dealer with a testbook should be able to do this . Or even someone with a BBS faultmate .

    Tricky question - It depends.

    Hi Bob,

Welcome to the forum. Always good to have yet more folk here to share LR stuff with. It's always good to share. A problem halved and all that.

I'm not sure that there is much that can be done with your instrument cluster other than replacement. I know some instrument technicians out there have produced replacement template mattes for the dials so this may be a possibility for your KPH only speedometer. I have, on occasion, seen these templates appear on the web (places like FleaPay and such)

I know that the trip computer can be programmed to work in either miles or kilometres for all of it's functions so this would tend to suggest that it may be as simple as changing the Vehicle Configuration File to make the car work in KPH and KMs travelled. This can only be achieved by someone with diagnostic equipment capable of editing the VCF. This is usually a stealer or indy service centre. It can be done if there's someone out there with a non VIN locked Faultmate too.

I'm no expert in this stuff but I think given that a large part of the early L322s were based on BMW electronic systems they probably already work in KMs and just do the math on the fly.

Others more conversant out there may be able to offer more enlightened guidance. My suspicion is that it may actually be fairly straightforward.

That's my 2c worth. Hope this helps some.

    Cheers,
    Iain

I can only comment based on my Sport, I know the dash can be re-programmed to run in KMs so I don't doubt your L322 can as well, but as others have said it needs someone with the LR software.

With my car (which I'm importing soon) I messed about with it with my independent guy back home, by plugging in testbook with the latest software and carrying out a full update it asks what market the car is destined for. We had UK / Europe, Scandinavia (gives it daylight running lights), USA, Canada, Australia & R-O-W. You also have to select what options the cars' fitted with such as adaptive headlights, phone integration that kind of thing, we could also switch off the seatbelt bongs, tell the satnav to allow input on the move etc. It could also set the car up for the different fuels in each country.

As a display, it'll change the mileometer reading and everything relating to it into KM's and quite honestly I think that's all you can see as a change, as with mine I can already select it to do everything else in KM's off the info settings. Otherwise you're into changing the whole instrument cluster and having it re-programmed, from a personal perspective I'm happy to leave the instrument cluster and just have the car setup for Aus, the speedo has both mph & kms on it and I'm struggling with this km/h concept anyway

Thanks Mike, Iain and Gary. Have to say I was hoping the odometer and tripmeter could be re-progammed. I actually own a BMW 540i sport which has an almost identical instrument cluster and of course my Range Rover is full of BMW stuff. Now that you guys have suggested it CAN be reprogrammed, I have spoken to 'the BMW man', who I know quite well, and he says he is happy to use his programmer to sort it for me. So that is good news.
On the speedo dial front, I have fond a company, Lockwood International, (lockwoodinternational.co.uk) who say they might be able to supply or make a kmh dial.
So, we shall see how this all works out!! Hopefully, well!!
    Cheers.

No worries, hope it works out

Lockwood have been selling stick-on dials for years, had them in one of my own cars about 15 years ago.

Yeah Mike, I remember those stick on things. They did the job!!

I have managed to find an instrument cluster in Perth that is from an Aussie delivered car. Cost a little bit, but cheaper than the complete dial that Lockwood would make (not just stick on any more....polycarbonate and all four dials in one piece)
I am a watchmaker, so I am looking forward to pulling the clusters apart and swapping the dials. I have to do the pixel ribbon too. Did my BMW the other day. 100%. Hmmm! Should offer my services on here!!
Hopefully all my problems solved!! I reckon in a week....

Just be careful when/if you are going to change I/packs. If you change with a lower odometer reading vehicle it will change to the higher odometer ( your original) reading of what your vehicle was!
If you change with a higher speedo vehicle (& this is where it gets a little hazy) from memory it will add both odometers together & this will be your new odometer reading

    Cheers

Speedo, Odometer fix to KMH L322

Hi, seen this issue some of you were having, I had the opposite as I was importing from the republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland (UK) so had to change the dial fascia from km's to miles per hour. In the uk we normally have both indicated however in Ireland the genuine Range Rover Odometer comes with km's only from 2005 -2010 for some strange reason as before this they were a dual system also.
How did I fix it I hear you ask... the easiest & cheapest way possible!
As mentioned by others it's not wise to switch out the entire Odometer as they can reconfigure your mileage reading & when clocked back will leave you with a black dot to notify everyone it has been doctored.
The best way around this is to take the Odometer binnacle out, pop of the front cover then the pins for the gauges. Once you have done this you can simply replace the dial fascia behind which is in one piece on the L322. This opposite means you don't have to do any other modifications recalibration.
Once you have the Odometer which can take about 20-30mins replacing the fascia is a 5-10 minute job just be careful to note the pin locations so your gauges all point where they should! Before putting all the dash back check it by plugging it in, I drove down the road to cross check my speedo against my sat nav speed readout.

The ones I bought (in miles) cost me £110-£115 each (however these were not genuine).

Hey if it is any help I have 2 genuine L322 dial fascia's that are in kms. I'd be happy to sell them as it would recoup some of my costs. Say £60 each plus postage (note you only need one).

I'll be able to use the cash to fix my new project... bought a Tdv8, love it however owned it 5days and the coolant hose entering the top of the engine popped off (nightmare to get near) need hands like a midwife to get at it! When landrover finally got me the correct hose I took her for a spin and my battery light appeared. The hot coolant seems to have goosed my alternator which means I've a day or two's work to dismantle half the thing to get near it :-(

    Gotta run....
