It's just a back up so you can open the N/S/F door if the remote fails.

Hi everyone, see if you can help me here. 33Chinacars sent me a link for a new key from the States. This one, unlike others I've seen on fleabay has an uncoded RFID transponder chip in it, not just the bare key. Although easy enough to sync the actual key so I can unlock the doors, does anyone know if there is anyone in Aus that can program the transponder in these so it will actually start the car?

The blurb says that there are quite a few places that can do this (apart from the Stealers), but when I emailed them, they only know of places in the US that can do them - they said any good automotive locksmith could do it, but I don't know and can't find anyone that can. Link to the key is eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

    Any ideas?

    Cheers - Gav

EDIT - Just got off the phone with a locksmith who had a bit of an idea about these and said he couldn't do them because the programming of the key had to be done through the diagnostic port on the car, not with the actual key???

Now I'm really confused because I thought you could get these done without the vehicle being there???
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I have a funny fealing that the transponder for the P38 is a different frequency in the USA to what we have here. Wondering if the L322 is the same. Needs further investigation Me Thinks

Yes indeed Gary, a lot more investigation. Tried to ring the Stealers and talk to them about it, but the guy I want to talk to wasn't at work last week. A friend of mine put me onto a guy that he knows and can give me a straight answer, but I will have to try him again next week.

I'll post anything else I find out.

    Yes indeed,

The frequencies that we use here in Australia are the same as those used in the EU variants (somewhere in the UHF). The US are difficult and use a different set of frequencies since the ones the rest of the world use (as above) are already allocated to something else in their spectrum.

Microcat makes this fairly clear when you select any of the key related things and marks stuff as NAS specific.

Incidently this is not limited to things like the remote/key fob, ordinary things like camera flash triggers and radio controlled gizmos have the same issues with ROW vs NAS.

Anyone who has an Autologic or T4 will be able to do it for you, I'd recommend Deacon Automotive in Bentleigh as he def has the kit and is reasonable.

Make sure it is a 433Mhz key as the US quite often uses 315Mhz which won't work as RangieBit said.

    Cheers,

    Hi All.
    Had this responce

    "Dear 33chinacows,
This runs at 315mhz. I do have the 433/434mhz if you require ? the price for that version is $94.95 "

From this ebay seller ( USA )

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

So a lot cheeper than from dealers in UK

hmmm I am watching this thread with interest, as I don't feel you will be able to find someone who can get a dump of the rfid codes from the bcm and write a new one to a blank rfid chip.

If the gear was a reasonable price and the software was available to talk to the bcm to get the codes, I would think the local dealers or the independants would be selling cheaper keys by the bucket load.

but I would love to see a cheap source of keys found and would happily recomend them to all after buying a couple myself

I am reading this thread with a tear in my eye.

I just ebay purchased a US key, had it cut and tried to sync it!!!!!!!!!!!!

BRAND NEW UNCUT LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 3 KEYLESS REMOTE HSE L322 VOGUE SPORT | eBay

I guess it is the wrong frequency.

    - I could not turn the key in the ignition, is that normal before the key is sync'ed.

At least I got the old key fob programmed to work - -But I would like a backup key.

It's a 2 way process on the first sync of the key, the key ID gets synced to the car and the car ID gets written in to the key. Hence why getting a used key won't work as it has another cars ID burnt into it which cannot be overwritten.

If the key won't turn then it hasn't been coded to the car, this won't have anything to do with the frequency. The frequency will only determine if the remote locking will work or not.

When you go through the process the diagnostic kit hooked up it first gets you to put the key in the ignition and go through a sequence to code the transponder to allow it to turn, and then you do a manual button press sequence to code the remote part, ie the two systems of the ignition transponder and the alarm/locking get programmed seperately.

But yeah, not much point shelling out for the key to be synced if the remote bit is on the wrong frequency unless you just want to keep it purely to unlock using the blade and to start the car.
