Hey Daniel, just check the trailer plug, you may find that UK has different wiring to us for trailer plugs.

Yep thanks - the trailer socket is of little concern - $4.95 locally so I don't think that this makes any material difference. The Australian LR loom comes with the Euro socket (as used in Vic) which is not used in NSW anyway so will still require a locally sourced socket to be exchanged.
and remember to cross over of the 2nd tail light circuit. Its not the socket thats the issue, its wired & loom is colour coded different for UK & EU. Its not the end, just have to know about it, I have the schematic if needed.
EU on the left has 2 tail light circuits. These 2 wires need to go to pin 7 to keep the bulb out error at bay. Blue, Black and Brown are mixed.
- Wire the new plug as per Aus standard listed on the packet.
- Cut the Black wire near the controller
- Splice the Black wire coming from the controller onto the Brown so both brown and black are going to pin 7 via brown
- Join Reverse light feed to black (if wanted) to pin 2
- Cut Blue wire near controller and insulate Blue coming from controller. The rear fog lights are not tested.
- Join electric brake controller output (if present) to blue wire going to plug pin 5.
OK the research is -
Locally the dealers ask for $430 plus GST.
In UK the price is $270 however as always the Brits cannot organise themselves to offer decent "shipping" prices being quoted at $100.
In US the price is $300 from Atlantic British and $270 from BP Utah (formerly Rover Connection) with "shipping" about $35
So I'll be getting the wiring loom and ECU from US for a total of $305.
If anyone else wants a kit let me know asap and I can order another and perhaps save on "shipping".
Interestingly the genuine tow bar tongue (that fits into the hitch) is priced at $440 + GST. I have the genuine article on my 2005 L322 so I'll get my local engineer's shop to make me one. I may get it gold plated and it'll still cost less!
I'm sure someone told me that a Heyman-Reece tongue will fit ? I would give them a call and have the dimensions ready for reference, also most caravan places carry used (some replaced due to trailer height etc.) / unsold items which might be worth a try.

Yep - its a standard 2" square hitch so any generic tongue will fit.
The genuine LR part is solid 2" bar not hollow like the generic tongues.
The generic tongues almost always up end up with slotted hitch pin holes - that's why LR went to a solid tongue as well as the length being a little longer than most generics. On my '05 L322 I drilled and threaded for an M12 pinch bolt to stop any rattling. It also stops any thief in their tracks and by always having the tongue fitted it makes a mess for others that park by touch. I'll be dong the same on my '07 L322.
Haymen- Reece make a solid towbar tounge ~$180. Not as much drop as std RR one . Not ajustable.

Actually Hayman Reece, Land Rover and others went for the solid hitch because it is usually rated to the same payload as the vehicle with the attached hitch. That is, 3500kg. The hollow hitches are typically only rated to around 2000-2200kg.
Those hollow ones are fine for a camper trailer and/or the box trailer but are not up to snuff for towing a substantial caravan (or a large horse float and horses!)
People still use them for the latter and then are surprised when the hitch rounds out the pin holes or on the very odd occasion actually fractures.
Cheers
