    L322 low range selection

I have recently purchased a MY06 TD6 Vogue and I have no Low Range selection available. I suspect the Transfer Selector Motor as it has always been a Toorak Tractor, although I don't get any warnings on the dash at all. I flick the low range selector whilst in neutral with my foot on the brake and nothing!Anyone with any ideas?

Check that the connections underneath to the transfer box are connected and " CLEAN" ! I would almost bet it's never been used till you tried, so just check the basics first, as there are no error messgaes.
If no luck try to reset the Transfer box ECU !

Try resetting the Transfer Box ECU doing the following...

    1. Turn the ignition key to the on (first) (not start) position.
    2. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
    3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
    4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

This clear the Potentiometer settings and typically allow you to go into low range. If this works, then you need to go between low and high range 3 times. The first is from a dead stop and the second two are while moving around 8-16 kl/hr (you still need to shift into neutral and drive which moving.

    Good luck

    low range selection

    Hey guys,

Does anyone have any ideas on this one......
I have replaced the transfer actuator on my 2005/06 TD6 Vogue and still no low range!!!! With neutral selected and foot on the brake , flick the low range switch and there is no indication on the dash or 4WD info on the Satnav screen to say anything has changed, the light isn't on and nothing is happening. All that is left is ecu and fuses i suppose, unless I'm missing something easy. Possibly the switch is knackered. It's a love affair isn't it,lol.

    G'day Laurie,

No good so far mate. I got the 4WD place to change the actuator motor as my parts arrived from UK, and no difference. I'm in WA working for another month so won't be able to suss it out till then. I suspect a simple fuse or a knackered switch , hoping CPU is ok !!!!! I'll check for a voltage on the plug when I get home with the wife selecting low as I do it, that should at least tell me if I'm getting a signal there.

    Hey there Tazzy,

    Yep, ya gotta love 'em.

I know I'm asking the obvious here but you have put the transmission back into a forward gear and driven forward a little haven't you?

I find on mine that while almost every time it will light the dash and console lights and you'll hear the transfer case mesh, very occasionally you have to move for it to actually do all of that. You should at least get the dash light (in the gear indicator area on the instrument cluster) to flash while it attempts to engage the low range gears. If even that bit isn't happening then there's definitely some sort of disconnect in the process. This is the part where moving forward makes the flashing Lo indicator stay on constantly. This does happen only very occasionally though for me. It all usually only takes a couple of seconds but if you're stationary you should be able to here the actuator operate.

Possibly not your problem but asking just in case.

As for fuses, I can't remember if it's 13 or 33. I think both are labelled as transmission but one is the TC actuator (among other things possibly). I'll have to look at the electrical diagrams to be sure. I'll have a look tonight.

If it is the switch, and I hope it isn't 'cos they're a pain (and expensive) to replace, check that the circuit board under it is the same model number as the original. I think you have to replace the whole panel. Strange things happen when the wrong one for your model is used.

Do you have access to anyone with a diagnostic tool as it may, just may, be reporting some error that can be tracked to an obvious cause.

Anyway, sorry for the obvious questions, good luck with it.

    Cheers,
    Iain

Cheers Iain for the advice mate. Unfortunately I don't get any light , let alone a flashing one, and I've had the Auto sparky do the diagnostic check and nothing came up either. I'm hoping it is just a fuse, wishfull I know, but will check it out when I get home in 4 weeks. Thanks again mate

    G'day again Tazzy,

I don't envy you being so darned far from home and being frustrated by the technology. I guess the good side is you can't do much with it while you're there and it's at home.

I do know there is a big fuse in the engine bay (in the ECU box?) that flows all things transmission but if this one were blown I don't think you'd have your Transmission working let alone the Transfer case. I could be wrong. It does happen ----- occasionally! LOL

There are so many links in the chain and like everything else it's not just an on/off switch but a pulse on the CANBus, that feeds the main ECU, which notifies the AT ECU, which notifies the TC ECU, and so on. It really is a maze sometimes.

I'd almost be prepared to kill for a set of the diagnostic trees that T4 has. Nonetheless, take care where you are and keep us posted when you get back.

    Cheers,
    Iain
