    Resetting Inspection light & other stuff

    Having a bit of a hissy fit at the moment! I'm trying to reset the inspection light and counter that comes up when you first turn the ignition on. I've done it before, but I'm stuffed if I can do it now...

    Tried the button pressing thing, get to test no 21 - reset, and it doesn't reset the counter...

    Plugged in my IID tool to see if that would do it, and I can't find anything in there that helps either. And while I'm on that, I can't seem to see half the ECU's with it either.

    Went through and had a look at a few faults it had in some of the ECU's, then went to reset all. It usually counts up to 27 as it clears each ECU, but it gets to 10, says update unsuccessful, then exits the tool...

    Any ideas?

    Gav there were problems with re-setting the IID tool, just give it some more go and it should work. (re-boot) Quote below

    i had the latest firmware but when the tool started it showed read fault, button up and went to clear fault and then up again to show configuration.. but after that nothing untill i held the button for about 3 seconds, it then jumped to the next level and so on.. showing all the other menu's,

    Reset Service Indicator

    With ignition turned off, press and hold LH instrument panel button in the dash area.
    With button depressed, turn ignition key to position I.
    Continue to hold for five seconds until "SIA reset" appears, then release the button.
    It will flash "reset SIA 3600 kms" and "Inspection".
    Press the button for another five seconds until "Reset" appears.

    Switch the ignition off.

    Hmmm. Just tried that, and no luck. I get RESET? On the dash, but it doesn't matter if I press a button or just turn off the ignition, when I turn it on again it still shows INSPECTION then the KM past due...

    Next idea?..

    Hi Gav,

    From memory, a tenuous thing at best, the manual service reset procedure is actually documented in RAVE (not sure where though) and also in the HawkEye operating manual. No, you don't need the HawkEye, although it does do the Service Reset thing. Don't have either handy at the moment. Maybe some other forumite can cut and paste

    I do also vaguely recall that once the service interval has been exceeded, and the warning has come up in the info display, that the procedure to reset is slightly different.

    Surprised the IID Tool isn't doing it. Must be a glitch of some sort.

    Anyway, hope the above helps.

    Thought the IID tool could do it too, but I'm having trouble with it, so that may be one function that is on the blink. I'll be posting on this on FFRR shortly.

    Hey, thanks Laurie, got it sorted!

    Just looking at some other stuff there, I thought this was interesting.

    Programming a new Key

    Replacing a missing master key is quite expensive from Land Rover, try not to get sucked into the extra cost of "Dealer coding" You can do this yourself in 2 minutes by following the simple process below.

    1) Get in and close all doors. Turn ignition on and off quickly and remove the key (all within about 5 seconds).


    2) Within 30 seconds of turning the ignition off, while holding down the "unlock" button, press the "lock" button three times. Release the "unlock" button. (You may or may not get the confirmation from the door locks.) Holding the key at your head level provides best results as the key sensor is in the side window pillar.

    3) Repeat for each key you want to initialize within 30 seconds after the last one you initialized (if you have more).

    4) Right after doing the last key, quickly put the key back in the ignition and turn it on/off again to finalize.


    Anyone know if this works, or if they are full of ****?

    Yes Gav,

    This does indeed work.

    This procedure is to synchronise all the keys to the same "code" as the EWS so that they can all remotely lock and unlock the doors. That is all.

    If you get a new key that's never been used on the car before it has to be paired with the ECU so that the codes are correct. You need to do this with all keys, at the same time, to ensure they all work.

    This is how I got the electronics in my new key to work with the car as a valid remote. As previously stated (in another post) they now BOTH lock and unlock the car, but only the original key starts the car. Due to the programming of the EWS in the car and lack of programming of the RFID chip in the new key.

    Clear as mud? In short, that documented procedure works.

    As an aside it also reconfigured the seat and mirrors so the key memory portion can obviously tell the difference between my two keys even if one does not "talk" to the ECU via the ignition barrel - yet.
