    Intake swirl flaps

Does anyone know if the M57 diesel fitted to the TD6 have swirl flaps in the engine air intake. I read some BMW models have them others dont.
If they are fitted anyone had problems or removed them?

Only ever having taken a quick look at a manifold that was off one these, I can't be 100% certain, but I don't recall seeing anything like this.

Definitely don't recall seeing anything like that, but I can see why you would be concerned... I haven't heard of any major failures with this engine, so I think we should be fine.

Pretty sure there was a thread on FFRR about swirl flaps. I think the conclusion was not fitted to TD6.

So are you saying that the L322 never had them fitted or that they should be removed??

Never fitted as far as I know. As mentioned, the inlet manifold I had a look at had no such thing on it.

If they were there and giving issues, it would have appeared on a thread somewhere...

I suppose if they were not fitted there would be no vacuum system evident.

The engine BMW sold to Ford for the TD6 was a dumbed down version of the M57 with less power and torque compared to BMW versions. And no swirl flaps. This is good because it means our engines are less stressed and easily tuneable while keeping in BMW specs.
