I would consider talking to the manager and letting him know. If the reaction is not satisfactory then don't go back.
first the question, is there a mechanic south of the river in Perth, who can be trusted to do work on my L322 V8.
Now the rant, my engine had a slight miss in the engine, it showed up when i hit the go peddle or went up a hill, anoying but the car was still drivable, I found a workshop who claimed to be specialist in LR, BMW, and Jaguar, so i thought i would give them a go if they had the diagnostic ability, booked it in today they kept it for 2 hours then rang to say they had found a faulty ignition coil, which i had suspected from advise from this forum,so i went to pick up the car. When i arrived i asked for the diagnostic report, they didn,t have one, they claimed the diagnostics showed no2 coil was faulty so they swopped it with no6 and then diagnostics showed no6 faulty proving that was the faulty coil, sounds reasonable, i then asked if they had a replacement coil and the price, they didn,t have one and the price would be about $100, I told them i was going to check if the warranty would cover it and would be back, now it starts to get interesting, going home i had to use manual because of the missing and juddering, it was really undrivable and i shouldn,t have driven home, anyway when i got home i reconed let me see what they did, first thing i noticed was the one spacer on the ignition cover was missing, the bolt was in but tightened up till the head of the bolt was below the hole in the cover, i had to grind down my 10mm socket so it could reach down through the hole , i shouldn,t have bothered the cover would have come off without removing the bolt, lol next thing i noticed was every coil was in a different position, i had just changed the plugs last week and numbered the coils, the nuts on the coils were loose so i am not sure they were even contacting the plugs. I returned the coils to their correct positions and my car is drivable again, although it still has that miss but do you think i should let them touch my car again?? I think i will be going back just to get the missing spacer for the ignition cover.
End of rant.

Thats my plan for monday, but it will be difficult to trust them after todays episode, i will need to check everything they do, easier to just do it myself which was something i was trying to get out of![]()
Trevor had a workshop in Star Street Carlilisle . Behind the old Brit Parts building. He did wander off to do some mining work ocasionaly but was the best most honest Landy mechanic in Perth. There are other workshops that i wont mention here that prey on the non mechanicaly minded. My wife once took the D2 for a service while I was away and was told she needed to spend $7k on a new head gasket etc. i put a stop to thst nonsense 5 yests later the same d2 has not needed a head gasket.
The Guys in Wangara up North seem ok i only bought parts and got advice from them because my workshop was around the corner. They seemed to know what they werevtalking about ,but i did hear a lot of swearing coming from the back of that shed occasionaly. Lol.
Southern Landrover serviced my new Defender and did a great job they fixed the backlash in the 90 . They wont be cheap but they have all the diagnostic gear & you will only have to get it done once. Im now in Sydney and am looking for the same here.

My D4 and my son's D1 have been serviced by Jorden Rovertech in Welshpool for several years. They only do LR and know them inside out. Not as posh as Southern and not always perfect, like everyone, but I have found them very good in general. Speak to Kevin if you can get him off the phone.

Why is it so hard, that guy i went to in Myree was a real *** when i went back and complained on Monday his response was " well what do you want me to do about it?" I politely asked him if he thinks paying $135 to have my engine stuffed up was too cheap. I had to just leave or face an assult charge. A couple of years ago crossing the Nullabor with a caravan behind my 300 TDi i blew the head gasket, i was towed to Kalgoorlie and a mechanic in Kal was brilliant, even though it was a long weekend he took on the job, had my caravan towed to a caravan park and sorted out my tug. He was a guy who showed pride in his work and went the extra mile without taking an arm and a leg, I forget the name of his business but it was a real pleasure doing business with a man like that, it,s a pitty they are few and far between, Oh and the reason he was such a gentleman may have been because he too rode a LR.
I had an issue similar to this in my 03' Vogue V8. It felt like a misfire but after a full inspection and some new coils the issue wasn't fixed. It ended up being a faulty fuel pump.
The car has 2 pumps, one at the fuel tank and one closer to the engine. The fuel tank pump eventually died and after replacing the engine 'misfire' was gone. In fact it was just a faulty pump which would give the feeling of the engine lurching a bit, especially at low revs/high speed under acceleration.
Hope this helps.
Well all fixed, it was a ignition coil, got two from America for the same price as i was quoted for one in Perth, took a week, very happy. Sounds and goes like a V8 not a V7 lol
