Power it through a relay - not enough volts to activate it during the bulb check. Did this on mine.

How did you go with changing to LEDs, as I tried and keep getting fault codes and warnings due to the different power requirement the computer thinks the bulb is blown. Is there a fix around this. As I would like to change most over to LEDs and add a light bar or two and work lights.
2003 HSE 4.4
I have two small LED strips, mounted just inboard of the original lights. Wired directly into the reverse light wiring at the lights. I get the flicker on start up, possibly while driving as well, but I have never seen it.
There is a useful increase in light. I have also replaced my reverse camera (it was failing, a common fault) with a cheap ebay camera. It works much better in low light conditions.
I have been using at night lately and these LEDs are considerably brighter; suitably lights up our 8 metre driveway!
I don't get any bulb warning signal from these; this system still turned on as it advised of front side light failure last week-- bulb replacement.
I've now ordered a set different mount LEDS from HK so will try in other positions shortly.
I have fitted replacement reflectors in the bumper with LEDs i found on eBay. Can be used as brake, tail, indicator and reverse all in one. work great.
They do blink when ignition off but this just acts like an alarm warning and also helps be seen when parked on a dark street.
Hi 4x4instyle,

Hey i ummm well i thought my reverse lights where crap too. But then i realised my window tint was pretty dark. Now i wind down Ze vindows & my reverse lights are not that bad after all.:)
I put LED globes in brake and reversing lights on my D3. The LED globes are much brighter than the ones in it before then. Reversing at night is much easier after this minor and very inexpensive change.
Some suppliers listed in thread below.
