    5L40e from a Holden SV6

I've just bought a 2002 L322 TD6. It has 138K on it and is on its original box. Money aside i'm keen to minimise the downtime of being off the road when it inevitably goes k'phut.

Is there any material difference between a 5L40e in my RR to 5L40e from an SV6 Dunnydore? I know the final ratio is about 3% higher but as we all know that is comparable to tyre wear on overall FD. I'm keen to acquire a used box and reco it to keep on hand as a spare. Cheapest source for a core will be a Holden wreckers.

    Thoughts anyone?

If you want a spare, might as well find an ex crapadore 5L50E ( for the heavier duty clutch packs) as in either case, 40 or 50, you'll have to do complete strip AFTER your box goes kaput as you'll need the bell housing/pump, output shaft and housing to suit the transfer box.
Even though both RR and GMH output shafts might seem similar in number of driving teeth in the epicyclic gears, the bearing mounting might be different -- thats in the adaptor /output housing.

Another thing to consider is that GMH Australia only use mineral based Dextron 6 in their 5L boxes so clutch and valve block wear might be an issue. I've heard that 200,000+km for a 5L box in a commodore is rare too, without work!

valve block wear will be an issue no matter what 2nd hand box you use - its a fundamental design flaw
