Brake pad brand feed back?

I had TRWs on my disco 2 and the only problem was the dust stains on the wheels. No squealing.
We also fitted the Delphi-lockheed ones with no dramas on D2s.

I generally go for the cheaper pads....sounds silly i know. they are usually a harder material and will last longer. breaking performance is well....its a range rover, i break traction well before i exhaust the abilities of the massive brakes.

I use the same priciple for tyre choice, as im writing this, i realised how i just complained about breaking traction in the previous paragraph... whoopsie...dont listen to me, my logic is flawed.

I only bought the cheaper tyres too. Brake dust is easily fixed with cold black tea. :)

I'm running TRW on the front of my L322 and no squealing, very effective:). More dust though than I've seen in 40 years of driving:(.

softer pads might produce more dust, but softer pads probably brake better than hard disc destroying pads.
I'm fitting slotted rotors and trying the Brembo pads, if this lousy weather gets better.

Well got around to doing the Brakes today.
I found the previous mechanic? mustn't have known the torque values on the caliper bolts as they took some unlocking, I tried a ring spanner and tapping it with a hammer, then tried a bigger hammer, then finally progressed to a quite long breaker bar and socket to get them loose!:mad:
The existing pads were RDA branded pads and I'd imagine the rotors also. I didn't like the pulsating feedback on the fronts from the existing brakes. The Pads were quite new. Maybe they were not bedded in correctly from the start?, who knows.

The rotors took some hard hits with a hammer to get them to pop off.
I replaced them with a slotted rotors and Brembo pads.
Man those calipers are heavy!
Of course had to replace the brake wear sensor as the end broke as I removed it, now I know why we sell so many of these things.

Todd didn't mention anything, it was too noisey to talk with that freeway noise next door.
I took them out for a good bedding in run during the hours of darkness where I was able to do it without stopping for traffic on a good stretch of continuous road.
The pulsating is no longer so I'm very happy to have smooth braking.
