tight plugs for torque converter oil change

Tried to undo the fill/drain plugs today. No luck.

Sprayed them with lanolin to help break the seal.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get them undone without destroying them.

Was thinking of using a power tool but dont know whether it would be good/bad for them.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    cheers

If you tried when cold , carefully ( because it`s hot ) try when hot to loosen both or the other way .

More important to get the fill plug out first ( pan can always be unbolted even if messy and getting the oil back in easily would be an advantage ).

I`d use as longer arm as possible on a ring spanner that is not worn or a socket with as longer bar as usable , i forget if the fill plug is single hex but if it is use a single hex socket and smooth force .

The torx bit in the drain needs to be tapped in and the unscrew needs to be square , a few sharp light taps on the plug may help but again as longer arm as usable and smooth .

With anything if it won`t move one way try the other as well but not to much , if you know what i mean .

I wouldn`t use other than my hands on either , that way i can feel and see to an extent what is happening .

When i changed the filter on ours the fill plug was firm but no drama the drain plug was very loose , i think it may have been screwed back in last time the pan was off ( before we got it ) and oil drained so`s not to be lost and forgotten about either that or they can come loose .

If i`ve got the wrong end of the stick and you actually mean the torque converter , i`ve not seen a plug and the above won`t be a lot of use .

    Hi PLR,

Yeah I'm talking about the torque convertor, I get the transmission done by Rhys @ Brookvale.

The folks on the fullfat site say to do it just after you have been for a run,its a lot easier to get them undone.

    cheers

After being for a run this morning, got them undone relatively easy.

Fluid was yukky brownish grey colour so am glad I did it now.

A lot quieter going into/out of low range now too.

Except for the rain that started during the procedure,it was easy.

Used a 500ml oil can with nozzle to fill it

    cheers

Can you direct me to the fullfat information , i searched torque converter plug and nothing about draining the fluid came up ?

What is the idea behind draining the fluid ?

Sorry about misunderstanding the initial question , i have a lot to learn about these vehicles and the more i don`t know means the less problems i`ve had .

One of the reasons i don`t go to fullfat to graze is because i don`t want to have a problem till i have a problem if you know what i mean .

    Cheers

I didn't know the convertors had a drain plug either, but if they could be drained it would get rid of old trans fluid in them when doing an Auto trans fluid renewal service, so would be useful to know if they could be drained.
