    salvage auction, locked, no key

Here is an opportunity for someone in Brisbane region...
Damaged 2004 Land Rover Range Rover HSE S/Wagon For Auction in Eagle Farm, Brisbane, Queensland – Manheim Salvage Auctions
The vehicle was stolen and subsequently recovered, the insurance company wrote it off. Auction staff tell me it is locked, so they cannot get into it. The brakes are on and it is in gear. The previous owner does not have a key.

Well the crooks in UK can scan the codes apparently with a readily available device and unlock to steal, so perhaps there is a crook somewhere who can open it.
Maybe put an ad in Gumtree! LOL

Once you officially own it I'd imagine that Land Rover could supply you with a new key.

I thought that the thieves had to hang around and read the codes that the actual use of the key sent to the vehicle.

Best case on replacement LRA keys is $926 for a pair, and programming on top of that, and 2 to 3 weeks for supply.

They would have stolen it by first stealing the keys .................. Why don't you look inside and see if the keys are swinging in the ignition ... or have been thrown on the floor inside somewhere... there is no reason for the thief to hang onto the key as it proves they stole the car if they are caught
