4.4 TDV8 Remap and Fuel Economy

    Hi all,

I recently got a L322 Luxury with the 4.4 TDV8 engine. I am very happy with it, but I noticed that the fuel economy claimed was not being met in real life - when I calculated the real world economy after filling up diesel I found it to be 15-20% higher than what the trip computer stated (eg 9.3L/100km at the pump vs 7.6L/100km on the computer). Does anyone else have a similar experience? Or are you getting accurate figures? It is a pity because my P38a was spot on.

I was looking at an engine remap to potentially address this issue, but it is hard to find examples of anyone else in Australia who has done a remap on a 4.4 TDV8 (seem to be a fair few on the 3.6 TDV8). There are certainly lots of websites which claim to be able to do the 4.4 TDV8 and they have local affiliated dealers, but the actual companies are based overseas and I am not sure if I can trust them. Especially ones with spelling errors in their advertisements! One particular one I was looking at:

+18% power with Stage 1 ECU Remap on Land Rover Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 230 KW (2002-2012)

Specifically, I note they have an option biased towards fuel economy which appeals to me. Not that I even know how much it would cost. Thoughts? Opinions?

    Thanks,

    Chris

If you're happy with the real consumption but would like it correctly reported then the fuel consumption correction factor in the car configuration file (CCF) can be adjusted using an appropriate diagnostic tool. However re-maps are available at various Oz workshops - another AULRO member had his done in the Brisbane area.

For more off-the mark performance, use sand mode.

    Thanks Graeme,

I note you have the same engine - do you experience the same issue? What sort of economy do you get? Although I understand that may be affected by the oversized tyres.

Local running about mine gets around 10-10.5. I changed the CCF so that the computed consumption reasonably well matches real consumption when the extra distance travelled is considered. However it still reports up to 2 l/100k less when towing my 2-2.5t van at around 100 kph.

    Post Remap

I have a 4.4SDV8 with a Roo Systems ecu remap and twin three inch exhaust. Roo give you three choices of remap - or did back in 2014 - economy, touring and towing and finally performance; i went t&t...as I wanted as much low down torque as possible towing a 21 foot Bushtracker caravan. Didn't want those pesty chipped LC200 series overtaking me lol!!

Dash readout was same as you two - out by around 1.7l/100 - before and after; I never get 10/100 but thats because 90% of my driving is stop start peak hour Brisbane....I get 13/100 on average. On highway I've seen 5.9/100 at 100 so its certainly capable of really low fuel consumption.

Dynotuned I have around 276kw and 850nm of torque. Enough....(LOL!!). I still cant believe how this car IDLES along at 1000rpm at 60km/hr up inclines. its hilarious!

    its a sensational car - a L405 with this set up is my dream...until i saw the D5 SVX...hmmm!!

    cheers

4.4 TDV8 Remap and Fuel Economy

How much is a bit of diesel compared to a 250k car? Think you need to learn to plant the accelerator and forget the fuel.
