Thread: Silicone Intercooler hoses

Apparently they are very sensitive to any leaks and usually accompanied with a bunch of black smoke out the rear.

so if leaking for some time then the smoke would be a give away.

ive heard that the silicone don't flex as much so spool up is quicker but I'm no authority on that.

ive also replaced my 90 degree manifold hoses with silicone, but had to buy similar sized hoses with similar bends for other applications from a speed shop and then cut them to suit. Comparatively cheaper as well.

since fitting the silicone no problems.

I did think about fitting generic hoses with alloy tube in between. But Mario did a pretty reasonable price. The last factory hoses lasted about 4 years. It will be interesting to see how long these silicone hoses last. I’m expecting at least the same.

I keep an eye on the tail wind plume. But with every maintenance and mod it gets less and less. I didn’t notice a change when the hose went pop. There’s no smoke generally unless I really give it a boot full. And even then it’s fairly minimal as far as I can see.

Must say your intake looks clean and free of egr build up

I put that down to the EGR going into retirement.

I need to get a couple of silicone 90 degree hoses. Where did you get yours Paul?

Go gear racing in Perth, the hoses were for a suburu or something like that. They were about a foot long with usual bends but right diameter and a matching bend so cut them to suit.

i looked in repco, super cheap and a couple of other shops before I found these

i was blowing one of these yearly before I replace them x4.

best to loose/remove the intake manifold to do so, although the front two can be replaced without removing the manifold but be prepared for one helluva struggle.

Is there two more at the back of the motor?
I’ve taken the from 90 degree bends off. It wasn’t too bad getting back on?

When you pulled out the pollen filter housing to access the EGR, did you have to move the AC pipe on the driver side near the firewall? I need to take out the housing to tidy up the sound insulation. Ta Paul.

Yes two more at the rear, I'm a bit surprised the four 90 degree hoses aren't supplied with the silicon hose kits as I've blown as many of them (front ones) as the inter cooler hoses.

certainly did not undo any pipes that would have needed regassing. But possibly a bracket.
